Robert P. Batian

Robert P. Batian, 68, of McDonald, OH and Naples, FL, went to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, September 21, 2008 following a difficult battle with leukemia.
He was born in Youngstown, OH on November 16, 1939, the son of George and Phyllis (Capriotti) Batian. Bob was a 1957 graduate of the Rayen School in Youngstown, OH. He grew up in Briar Hill. Bob began his career with General Motors in 1959, retiring in 1999 after 40 years of service. He was enthusiastically involved in his union fighting for workers' rights and was employed by the union as a health and safety inspector.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he loved the outdoors, fishing and debating politics. An avid hunter and marksman, Bob was a member of several local gun clubs and won countless national and international competitions.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Jean (Spencer) Batian; son, Robert G. Batian of Kent, OH; daughter, Diane M. (Richard) Ponton of Naples, FL; two grandchild-ren, Abigail and Olivia Ponton; uncle, John Delbene; motherin-law, Alice A. Spencer; brotherin-law and sisterin-law, Edward and Charlene Spencer; and three nieces, Marie, Jean and Joan Spencer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his younger brother, Charles Batian.
A memorial service and celebration of Bob's life will be held on Saturday, September 27th at 12:00 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 78 East Liberty Street, Girard, OH 44420. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
