Robert (Bob) Shugart Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 14, 2023.
Robert Preston Shugart (Bob), of Lake Kiowa, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023, in Dallas, Texas. A Celebration of Bob's life will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at The Lodge at Lake Kiowa. Please join our casual, come-and-go reception beginning at 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm as we share this time connecting family and friends to honor Bob.

Born on August 27, 1948, in Dallas to Shirley and Preston Shugart, Bob grew up in Garland, where he attended school, graduating from Garland High School in 1966. Attended East Texas State and the University of North Texas. He lived and worked in the Dallas Metroplex, and moved to Lake Kiowa in 2006, first as a weekender, then full-time in 2014. Bob worked in the banking/financial industry his entire career and retired in 2010.

Bob is survived by his wife of 41 years, Debbie Johnson Shugart. Sister, Lisa Shugart and husband Ken Ballard of Lake Kiowa, sister, Lori Shugart of Garland, aunt, Jill Shugart of Garland, and sister-in-law, Sharon Jordan of Lake Kiowa. Bob had five nephews and one niece, Scott, Drew, Blake, and Brad Dunavant, Justin Jordan, and Jaysha Jordan Grant and husband JR Grant. Great nieces and nephew include Kylie Grant, Jordan Grant, and JB Jordan. Cousins include Ashtyn and Peyton Shugart along with several more. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Shirley and Preston Shugart, cousin Matt Shugart, in-laws Barbara and Al Johnson, and brother-in-law Jeryl Jordan.

Bob loved all sports from an early age. He played baseball as a youngster, Trainer of the GHS football team, and then nourished his love for golf. With his family, he spent many weekends at Lake Texoma in their home "The Shugart Shack". He loved the water and went on the KVIL Cruise in 1980 where he met Debbie. She shares the story that in 1981 he proposed yet made sure that she knew he had an annual golf trip with the guys. That love for golf finally led him to Lake Kiowa where he so enjoyed the Men's Golf Association and participation in tournaments. Bob and Debbie's travels included years of sailing trips with Captain Don and First Mate Gayle Canada learning each task assigned while laughing and sharing these adventures.

Bob will be remembered as a loving husband, good friend, and enjoyable golf buddy. He was a trusted advisor for many and would always let you know his opinion. He worked as a sounding board for his family. Bob stood for truth, humility, and treating people the way you want to be treated.

Bob was my husband Jim Morrison´s golf partner. I loved following them around during the Spring Kicker each year. They always did well. Bob had a great personality and I loved him. It has been extremely difficult for Jim to lose his close friend and golf partner. I also loved the fact that Bob was a lover of animals, especially his sweet dogs. I know Roonie misses him. Our love and prayers go out to Debbie and all of the family. Danette Morrison
