Robert Gildersleeve Obituary
A joint memorial service for Robert and wife Karen will be held Saturday June 10th, at noon at St. Thomas Memorial Episcopal Church Oakmont, Pennsylvania.
Reverend Gildersleeve was born September 9th, 1942, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. "Robbie" graduated from Oakmont High School, obtained a Bachelors Degree at California State University of Pennsylvania and a Masters in Divinity from Nashotah House Theological Seminary in Wisconsin. Reverend Rob as he was known had a diverse professional background including serving as a Staff Sargent in the U.S Marines, teaching Industrial Arts, operating a cement batch plant and as clean room technician at Lucent Technology & Agere Systems. The thread of ministry ran through all of his professional endeavors. Reverend Rob served at Episcopal parishes in Port Allegheny, Eldred, Jim Thorpe and finally retiring from Calvary Episcopal in Tamaqua. Later in life Robert served with the American Legion Post 304 of Jim Thorpe and played the sousaphone in the Leighton Community band.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Karen Lydic of Springdale, brother Rick, and parents Kirk & Jean Gildersleeve.
Robert is survived by his children Rebekah Gildersleeve Badaki, Leslie Gildersleeve Bettencourt (husband Robert Brian), and Warren D.F. Gildersleeve, his siblings Diane Pyle, Jennifer Dunkle, Adrienne Sicilano (husband Joseph), and grandchildren Ishola Badaki, Oreoluwa Badaki and Piper Bettencourt.
Reverend Rob served his country, family and community with grace, dignity and kindness. He was perpetually ahead of his time and ministered in a beautiful, quiet manner that saw no boundaries and loved all.

Rob and I were both resident assistants in Clyde Hall at California University, we both taught Industrial Arts after graduating, I had 34 years, haven´t seen him since graduation but remember him as a considerate and loyal friend, my sincere sympathy to his family and friends, may he Rest In Peace!!!

You have secured your last beachhead. You are now relieved from your post. A job well done fellow veteran. America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom. The final bugle has sounded and taps is about to sound ending a successful career as a nation´s defender. Farewell fellow veteran. A Navy Vietnam Veteran.
