PEORIA - Robert Davis McDougal III, 89, formerly of Peoria, passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, in Miami, Fla.
He was born in Peoria, Ill., on April 16, 1925.
Bud is survived by his wife, Anne McDougal Mayor of Indian Creek Village, Fla.; his son, Robert "Rob"; two daughters, Lucretia (Cree) Scudder and Virginia (Ginger) Dessaint; one stepson, Christopher Lemmon, and stepdaughter, Stephanie Saunders (from his marriage to the late Cynthia Stone of Peoria); 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Bud graduated from Lawrenceville School in New Jersey, attended the University of Florida and served his country in the Army Air Corps. He was on his college teams for swimming and football. After college, he was an avid golfer and boater.
Bud moved to Miami in 1949, following his marriage to Virginia Dodge. He brought "Culligan Water" to prominence in Miami, and served on many business groups and boards with great pleasure and grace. The call of "Hey Culligan Man" often echoed in the streets as his imposing figure passed through South Miami, generally walking and waving to his many friends and neighbors!
He also served on many charitable boards and committees to great effect and with wit and charm and tried to do all he could to help everybody. Bud's big laugh and warm smile will be sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift in Bud's honor to the Collegiate Veterans Success Center. Make your check payable to and mail to UF Foundation, Inc., attn: Gift Processing, PO Box 14425, Gainesville, FL 32604-2425.
