Robert Ross

Robert Wayne "BoRo" Ross, 85, passed away on February 12, 2025, in Hanahan, South Carolina.

Born on February 28, 1939, in Spearville, Kansas, Robert proudly served in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1961 as an electrician on submarines. Following his military service, he dedicated 48 years of his career as an electrician at Westvaco Paper Mill. His expertise and commitment to his craft were widely respected by colleagues and friends alike.

Beyond his professional life, Robert was a passionate street rod builder and was known as "The Father of Street Rodding in Charleston, South Carolina." He spent countless hours crafting and restoring street rods for himself and his friends, continuing this passion up until just weeks before his passing. His love for cars was more than a hobby-it was a lifelong pursuit that brought joy to many in the community. He was one of the founding members of the local car club, Street Rods Unlimited and an Honorary Lifetime Member.

Robert also had a deep appreciation for sports, first as a devoted supporter of his daughters' athletic endeavors and later as an enthusiastic spectator of his grandchildren's games. He rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on from the sidelines. A man of routine and intellect, he completed the crossword puzzle in *The Post and Courier* every day until just days before he passed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Ross; his brother, Charlie Ross; daughters Paige Mills (Brian) and Alison Teal (Joel); grandchildren Dutch Stevenson (Caroline), Reed Stevenson, Noah Mills, Luke Mills (Tori), Hunter Teal, Fisher Teal, Ryker Teal, Cora Mills, and Etta Mills; and great-grandchildren Ross Stevenson, Delilah Mills, and Lucy Mills. He was preceded in death by his brothers Billy Ross, Jim Newland, John Newland, and Gary Cook; and his sister Bessie Hemphill.

A memorial gathering will be held on March 1, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at The Porter Room at Holy City Brewery in North Charleston, South Carolina (1021 Aragon Avenue). In honor of Robert's passion for street rods and hot rods, attendees are encouraged to drive theirs to the gathering.

Robert was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. His legacy lives on through the family he cherished and the community he influenced with his craftsmanship and kindness. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
