Roger Crubel Obituary

Roger Emil Crubel, age 88, of Wamego and formerly of St. Marys, KS, died peacefully Sunday, May 26, 2024, at Valley Vista Nursing Home in Wamego. He was born on January 5, 1936, at the Crubel family farm, the son of Henry and Mary (Errthum) Crubel. Roger attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Bloomington, WI. On April 9, 1958, he was united in marriage to Ruth Metcalf at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Glen Haven, WI. Roger served his country proudly in the United States Army during from 1959 until 1961, Wisconsin Army Reserve from 1961 until 1964, and lastly the Kansas Army National Guard and Combined Support Maintenance Shop (CSMS) from 1964 until retirement in 1992. After retirement from the Kansas Army National Guard, Roger worked for the City of St. Marys and lastly the St. Marys Housing Authority.

Roger was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus (Council #657). He was an exceptional husband, father, and grandfather who passed many virtuous qualities onto his family. Some of the most treasured ones he exemplified were work ethic, honesty, and a good sense of humor. He enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, and dearly loved spending time with his family. He was loved by his family and many friends; he will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by a sister, Norma (George) Smrcina, four brothers: Art (Ruth), Harold (Carolyn), LaVerne, and Milo Crubel; one brother-in-law, Joseph Metcalf and by a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Myrna and Mark Esser.

Roger is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Ruth; their child: Robert (Brandy); two grandchildren: Brittney and Jacob; two sisters-in-law Mary Ann Crubel and Mary Alice Crubel, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Glenice (Ron) Mathews, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society and left in care of the Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple Street, St. Marys, KS 66536.
