Roger Macholl Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 24, 2025.
Roger Wayne Macholl, 87, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025, in Phoenix (Glendale), Arizona.

Born in 1938, in the Roscoe Village neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, Roger was the son of August and Charlotte Macholl. In his younger years, he earned a degree in Business Management from Northern Illinois University. He then went on to serve honorably in the Army as a company clerk at Fort Lewis in Washington.

Roger built a long and dedicated career in the life insurance industry. He worked for Washington National in Chicago, which relocated him to Phoenix, Anchor National Life. He later worked at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital and concluded his professional journey at AHCCCS.

Roger had a deep love for music that enriched every chapter of his life. He sang for many years with "The Phabulous Phoenicians," a traveling barbershop chorus. His voice also graced the choir of Redeemer Lutheran Church, where he and his wife Helen were active members. Roger's strong faith guided him throughout his life and inspired his many contributions to the church community.

A man of many passions, Roger found joy behind a camera lens capturing nature's beauty and family gatherings. Roger was also an avid baseball fan and remained loyal to the Chicago Cubs even after moving to Arizona.

In recent years, Roger developed special friendships with sisters in Christ who walked with him through his final years. Notably, he received 8 years of devoted care from a private caregiver, who was his closest, most dearest companion, and she remained faithfully by his side until the end as he wanted.

Roger was preceded in death by his beloved wife Helen; his parents August and Charlotte; his brother Donald Macholl; and sister June Jensen. Roger is remembered by his stepdaughter and her children and grandchildren as well as several nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona on September 24, 2025 at 9am. Those who knew Roger remember him as a kind-hearted man with a warm smile and a quick wit. May Roger's memory bring peace to all who knew him.
