My thought and prayers go out to the family. I didn't keep in touch with Ron throughout the years but he was my very first date many years ago and I remember the sweet and adorable boy bagging groceries! RIP Ron! Maybe we will meet again some day.

July 24, 2014

You Were a Very Special Person and I know I can say we were all Blessed to have you in our lives. You always treated everyone the same no matter if they were Rich or Poor. You Could have acted the Big Shot if you wanted to, but, Not You. I wish this would at least inspire each person to think about how we treat one another. So This is not Good-Bye, but, I will See You Later! Have A Great Time Up There With the Family. When I get there I'll Send you CODE:T.O.A.D. So you'll Know it's Me!! Lol.

Miss Pauline, My thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of your family. I am in Vermont for the summer and heard about Ronald from a phone call. My hearts breaks for you all. I first met Ronald when He worked at The Red and White. My children were small and it was hard to manage them and groceries, but every time He helped me to the car with them and would refuse to take a tip. He always had a smile and a kind word through the years whenever I saw him. I liked Ronald and respected him. May God bless you all.

When they could have been home resting, nope instead....Ronald and Julie were sharing dinner with a table full of 80+ year old folks (some in wheel chairs), who loved hearing & laughing with Ron over the many funny stories he shared with them, and then listening to Ron and Julie sing to all of them.....wow, a great evening to remember. Unselfish is what he was. He was a giver! His home and his heart were always open to those that needed a shoulder to cry on or a strong arm to lean on or an ear to listen to or someone to share laughter and joy with. He believed God was his savior and told people he believed this, and his actions spoke louder. What a good-hearted man he was. He helped so many children and indigent folks & families out of bad sad situations using his personal time and his own personal funds (never asking for or ever taking a penny back). Many times he helped people and they never even knew who it was that helped them. He has thousands of friends and I don't think there is a funeral home anywhere that can hold them all. Not only did (and do) people love him but animals loved him too. Lord Mercy he could walk into a pasture, and start singing to Mark Saunder's horses, and they would run from across the pasture as fast as they could to reach his side. Dogs were the same way, loved him "gooder than Gold". Animals know when a person is good or bad. This man did so many wonderful things as Sheriff of Brunswick County. I'm glad I knew this wonderful kind-hearted gentleman, and my life is richer because I did, and I along with thousands of others will treasure his friendship always. Those that knew Ronald Hewett know where he is today....with his heavenly father.
I know his family's hearts are broken. But they can rest assured that on his journey through darkness toward the light that he held his mother, Julie, Jessica and Justin so close that when he reached his destination Jesus could see their images on his joy filled soul.

Ronald and I worked closely when I was the Brunswick County schools substance Abuse Coordinator. We started the DARE program, gradually working it into all 5th grades throughout the county. Ronald Hewett was a natural. Smart, well liked, professional, and wonderful with children. I will always remember him. A part of all of us is gone. I love you Ron. Ralph J(Jeff) Cumbie

I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers and I picture him and Allan giving each other big hugs in Heaven.
