Rosemary CORFIELD Obituary

Published by Ottawa Citizen on Oct. 10, 2012.
CORFIELD, Rosemary
June 8, 1948 - October 7, 2012
Rosemary danced into the light to the beat of her own drum at the age of 64. Loving mother of Nicholas and Virginia, beloved cousin of Irene Wanless, and John and Jim Lang. Predeceased by her husband, Samir Haddad and parents, Norman and Virginia. Rosemary was born and raised in British Columbia. She will be deeply missed by her many dear friends and family and by all those whose lives she touched with her joy and love. Rosemary lived her life to the fullest and in the face of the increasing limitations of her illness, adapted and continued to live every day with resilience, courage and passion. She loved planning and hosting gatherings - including her own celebration of life just a few weeks ago. She was a dancer, a musician, an artist, a lover of languages, entrepreneur, a friend and, above all, a devoted mother. Rosemary was an inspirational figure in many groups, including the Ottawa Middle Eastern Dance Association, the Ukulele Ladies, the Belly dance and Arabic drumming communities, the Just for Women group. Everything she did, she did with her all.
Her unbreakable spirit and love of life will live on in the hearts and lives of all who loved her. She leaves us with these words from Osho: "To be creative means to be in love with life. You can be creative only if you love life enough that you want to enhance its beauty, bring a little more music to it, a little more poetry to it, a little more dance to it."
Many thanks to all our family and friends, and especially cousin, Irene, dear friend, Noralee Goodwin and the staff and volunteers of the Hospice at May Court for their loving care during the past few months. A funeral service will be held at Captial Memorial Chapel & Visitation Centre, 3700 Prince of Wales Dr, 613-692-1211 on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Capital Memorial Gardens. In memoriam donations can be made to the Hospice at May Court, 114 Cameron Avenue, Ottawa, ON.

Rosemary and I danced together and she was superb as a dancer and such a warm ,generous and intelligent woman. I loved the visit she made with young Virginia and Nicholas and Sam to White Rock one summer when Imfaced cancer. I am sorry I lost touch with Rosemary in recent years. I only just found out, and I wish her children and family strength.

Pleae accept my belated condolence in the loss of your mother. As you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends. I was shocked and very sorry to hear of Rosemary's passing. I had the opportunity and pleasure of dealing with your mother over the sale of a residence in the not too distant past and remember her with respect and kind thoughts.

I met Rosemary as a doumbec teacher at Womyn's Drum camp only in 2011 and she inspired me with her skill, her virtuosity, love of learning and sharing that knowledge. I send my empathy to the family for their loss and keenly mourn, with others, tthe loss to the drum and arts community that her passing represents. With sadness,

She taught my mother and I an Arabic drumming course at the Ontario Womyn's Drum Camp and was such a light. So full of life and inspiring, sweet as can be with an infectious smile. Though I met her only once, sad to hear such a gorgeous shinning star die young. I will enjoy carrying the beautiful hours shared with such a kind sweet soul. My condolences to her friends and family. Blessed be.

Her spirit is alive and well. She will send little tweeks of messages to her loving friends and family, that I am certain. As a volunteer at the hospice, I admired your strength, your peace, your colorful paintings, your values, and your path. I honor you, and what a gift you are to your children. Guide us all, in your footsteps to a kind and compassion way of life and a smooth transition into this new adventure ...welcoming you with open arms. We met only briefly a few times, and I am a fortunate person to have had contact with you...beautiful soul. Merci.

Words cannot express the depth of loss we all feel for your mom. It's true that she was a dancer, drummer, musician, loved gatherings and more, but above all, she was completely devoted to both of you. She is in my thoughts, heart, and prayers, as are you.

Dear Gin, Nicky and Lauren... Rosemary honoured me with her love and friendship for over 52 years...It was a gift to my heart to be with her at the end of her journey here. She will always be a part of me as will the three of you, the most awesome loving children she treasured above all else.
Rosemary's bright dancing spirit cannot be extinguished, it lives on..and most especially in you and those she loved so well...
Dearest Rosemary....I will love you forever...and as I told you, "I'll catch up with you later.." Until then....from my spirit to your spirit....my heart to your heart....we will never really be apart..
