Rosemary Montgomery Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 14, 2024.
Rosemary Ann (Schmidt) Montgomery was born in Olympia, Washington on January 10, 1954 to Elliot Edward and Mary Elizabeth (Papiez) Schmidt. She passed away on June 7, 2024 at her home in Tenino, Washington.

Rose is survived by her husband George, brothers Ron (Jan) and Jim (Bambi) Schmidt, sister Joan Schmidt and nephew Elliot Carver. She was preceded in death by her daughter Rebecca Allen Wellington.

She attended Saint Michael Catholic Elementary School and graduated from William Winlock Miller High School in Olympia. Her career began with employment at Olympia Vocational Technical Institute, where she also completed their dental assistant training program. She continued to work there as it transitioned into South Puget Sound Community College and then later was employed at a local dental office as a dental assistant. This is where she met her future husband, whose dental lab was co-located with the dental office. Later, following their marriage, Rose trained as a lab technician and became a partner with George.

Rose was outgoing, engaging and made friends easily. She was a loving and nurturing wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend. And she was much loved in return. She was one of those persons who was beautiful inside and out. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Additionally, Rose was an active and beloved member of Saint Peter Catholic Mission in Tenino, volunteering in several of their ministries. She was a fabulous baker and cook, and when visiting friends, she always had something to share, such as a baked treat or perhaps a plant. She was also a talented knitter and quilter with an eye for color. Her potted plants, gardens and chickens thrived under her care. And she was an avid equestrian, involved with orienteering as well.

A funeral mass will be held for Rose on Friday, June 21st at 11:00 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 149 Keithahn St S, Tenino, Washington. A rosary will be said at 10:30 preceding the mass and lunch will be served following the service. A private family interment of the ashes will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Olympia.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Thurston County Joint Animal Services. https://jointanimalservices.org

It is with much sadness that I send my condolences to George and to the Schmidt family. I hardly knew Rose, but I know that she was much loved and that it will be difficult for you to accept this loss. I think of her galloping (or maybe just trotting, she had reached an age when galloping is not so easy) through the gates of Heaven, free of all her sorrows.

Our hearts are heavy in memory of Rose and for all those who loved her. Please know that we are thinking of you and will keep you in our thoughts as you deal with this loss. We send our love and hugs for all.
