Roy Sterling Dickey

Colonel Roy S. Dickey, USAF (Ret.), of Milton FL, was born on 31 March 1929 and passed on 7 October 2017. He was 88 years old and had been a career military man and former fighter pilot.
He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1952 and was commissioned into the Air Force. He flew the T-33, F-84G, F-86D, F-101, F-102, and ultimately flew the F-105D in over 250 missions in Vietnam as part of the 469th TFS. Highly decorated, he earned two Silver Stars and five Distinguished Flying Crosses. He also shot down a MIG-17 on one of his earliest missions.
Roy was a family man and was beloved by his community. He was married to the late Billie Dickey for 59 years, and after her death, he married Gloria Ann Thomas in 2011. He loved both families with as much enthusiasm as he put into his flying career.
He is survived by his children, Stephen J. Dickey of Tampa, FL, Clare Dickey Haynes (and her husband, Frank) of Oneonta, AL, and Laura Dickey Trumbower(and her husband, Jeff) of Prosperity, SC; grandchildren, Erin Haynes Thompson (and her husband, Joseph),Kelly Haynes McCrae (and her husband Michael), Steve Dickey (and his wife, Andra) and Jason Dickey (and his wife Tiffany); six great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Daisy Enochs, Ruby Crow (and her husband, Larry), Roland Dickey (and his wife, Rae Ellen) and Violet Mallett.
He is also survived by his much beloved wife, Gloria Ann Thomas; her sons, John Thomas (and his wife, Nedra) Lowell Thomas (and his wife Mary), Dale Thomas ( and his wife, Pam) and Richard Thomas (and his wife, Sarah); and the Thomas grandchildren, Gentry, Rachel, Jessica Newton, Philip, Marshal, Trinity and Whitney.
A Memorial service was held on 14 October 2017 at Pineview United Methodist Church in Jay, FL followed by a military internment at Barrancas National Cemetery the following week.
