Roy Nutt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 26, 2025.
Roy Dale Nutt, age 51, passed away on March 5, 2025, in San Jose, CA. Born on January 15, 1974, Roy's life was marked by his adventurous spirit and dedication to helping others.

Roy was involved in his community, often working behind the scenes to support the unhoused in San Jose. He was known for creating Blessing Bags filled with essential items and was a regular volunteer at the San Jose's Men's Adult Recovery Center, where he taught relapse prevention classes. His commitment to service earned him the honor of volunteer of the year.

Professionally, Roy was a skilled member of Local 104, the Sheet Metal Workers Union. He completed his apprenticeship with distinction and specialized in architectural work, contributing to many notable projects including the iconic Butterfly House in Carmel-by-the-Sea. His craftsmanship can be seen in numerous buildings across the San Francisco Bay Area.

Roy attended De Anza College in the early 2000s, furthering his education while advancing his career. He and his life partner, CJ (Carol Jean) Jones, were also active members of the Center for Spiritual Living in San Jose, where they enjoyed the community and spiritual nourishment.

An avid traveler, Roy cherished planning trips, particularly in nature with CJ, their two dogs, and friends. Whether it was visiting state and national parks, observing solar eclipses, or motorcycling with friends, Roy loved the journey as much as the destination.

Roy is survived by his life partner, CJ, their dogs Little Bear and Little Bit, his father Roger D. Nutt, mother Linda Niebel, sisters Amanda Harris and Shelley Powell, brother James Niebel, and many loving relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 13, at 1:00 PM at the Center for Spiritual Living, 1194 Clark Street, San Jose. Roy's life was one of laughter, generosity, and love, touching all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
