In loving memory of Ryan Welch

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, devoted father, cherished son, brother, friend to many and soldier, Ryan Welch. He departed from this world on October 31, 2023 and leaves behind a life that was filled with love, adventure and service that will forever be etched in our hearts.

Born on May 17, 1971 in Bakersfield, California to Teri Phillips and David Welch. Ryan grew up in Fresno, California where he graduated from Clovis West High School. In his youth he played soccer and developed a passion for cars, trucks and all types of motorcycles.

Ryan was not only a pillar of strength for his family but also a dedicated soldier serving in the United States Army-Big Red One, First Infantry Division as a cannoneer in the Persian Gulf War-Operation Desert Storm earning three bronze stars and an Army Commendation medal amongst many other accolades. Ryan served his country with unwavering bravery and courage. After serving in the army, Ryan served five years in the National Guard during which time he also became a correctional officer at Pleasant Valley State Prison. He later retired with his family in Galt, California where he coached his sons' soccer teams multiple seasons and became an active member of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association.

His memory will forever be cherished by those who knew him. Ryan will be remembered for his big sense of humor, infectious laughter, beautiful smile, big heart, unwavering love for his family, and unyielding dedication to duty. He leaves behind a void that cannot be filled, but the love he gave will serve as a guiding light for us all.

Ryan was preceded in death by his father, David Welch. Ryan is survived by his wife, Shannon Welch and sons, Cannon and Cason Welch; his mother Teri Phillips; his siblings: Jared Welch and wife Shina, Kyle Welch and his wife Lisa, Logan Welch and his wife Jenna, Karly Bastrire and her husband Bryn and his nephews: Deegan, Dylan, Ethan, and Owen Welch and Bodi and Banks Bastrire.

A Military graveside service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella, CA. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Champaign Ranch: 12174 Borden Rd. Herald, CA 95638. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Ryan Welch to the PTSD Foundation of America https://ptsdusa.org/ .

As we say our final goodbyes, let us remember the loving husband, father, brother, son, soldier and friend that Ryan Welch was. Rest in peace Ryan for your big heart, the love you gave and your love for adventure will never be forgotten.
