Sadie Stockalper

Stockalper, Sadie 1986 ~ 2015 WARNER SPRINGS "There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of these is roots, the other, wings." ~~~~ Sadie had the wings. Luminous, energetic and generous in all ways, Sadie accomplished more in a month than many people do in a lifetime, always with her infectious and wide-open smile. Along with her mother Felice, Sadie's life was tragically cut short on May 1 in an act of unspeakable violence. (Please read her mother's obituary under Howard, Felice). Sadie's passing leaves a void in the many aspects of her life where she was a larger-than-life force, at such a young age. Sadie was born on June 2, 1986 and grew up in Ramona. She spent her high school years in Warner Springs and, post graduation, moved to San Francisco to join her sister Sara. Though she also spent time in Hawaii, Sadie's heart was always in the back- country, particularly after she and Felice bought a house in the Chihuahua Valley with room for 19 goats, 12 chickens, 2 cats, 3 dogs and many other animals, as well as an organic vegetable garden. She opened "Sadie's Homestyle Restaurant," a favorite among locals; however, it was destroyed in an electrical fire. Sadie was resilient; within the last year she had established a thriving catering and home meal delivery business, using organic foods from her garden, home-made goat cheese and other natural ingredients. On weekends, she worked at the "Hideout Saloon" where she was its manager, cook, waitress, bartender and cheerful face. With her unbridled energy, artistic and culinary talents, and amazing ability to touch and connect with everyone she met, Sadie was just beginning to reach her potential, and her wings could have taken her anywhere she wanted to go. Sadie is survived by her sister, Sara; her father, Rudi; step-mother, Patti; and step-siblings, Natalie Spieker and Fletcher Stockalper. The joint memorial service for Sadie and Felice will be held on Sunday, May 17 at 1:00 p.m. at the ranch of RJ and Kat Stewart, 29343 Chihuahua Valley Road, Warner Springs in the backcountry that she loved.
