Sandra Doherty Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 21, 2025.
Sandra K. Doherty, 83 of Vero Beach Florida, passed away on August 12th, 2025, with her loving family by her side. She was born to the late Francis and Dorothy (Mandell) Trainor on May 20th, 1942. Sandie was raised alongside her siblings in Hingham Massachusetts and was a graduate of Hingham High School's class of 1960. She then married her late husband and love of her life, William F. Doherty, in 1961. Thereafter, Bill and Sandie resided for over forty years in Halifax Massachusetts where they raised their three children. Later in life, Sandie relocated to Vero Beach Florida where the warm sunny weather matched her vibrant soul. Sandie dedicated thirty years of her career as an employee of Eye and Ear Care Center with Dr John Murphy, Pembroke Massachusetts and also served as a personal care aide within the elderly community. Apart from being a wonderful mother, Sandie devoted much of her free time to volunteering for many organizations where she left a positive impact on the lives of many. Some examples of Sandie's kind-hearted generosity include serving the crisis center hotline, making arts and crafts with the residents of New England Village, and reading books to children of her local library and community schools. She also served as a Den Mother to her children's Cub Scouts and Brownies organizations.

Sandie had a zest for life, and a true gift of brightening the day of those who were privileged enough to be in her presence. Whether you had known her for years or met briefly in passing, it was her shining aura that shed warmth onto anyone around her. She was an exceptional friend, always offering a loving hand without hesitation, which was largely reflected in the many friendships that she fostered throughout her lifetime. One of her greatest passions was oil painting, to which she created many beautiful works of art. She loved tending to her gardens and took pride in her beautiful array of plants and flowers. She also thoroughly enjoyed cooking and would deliberately prepare an abundance of food simply for the purpose of sharing her delicious meals with her neighbors. Sandie was always up for a good board game because it exemplified what mattered most in life; fun, laughter, and being together.

Sandie is survived by her loving children, Eric S. Doherty, Deborah F. Doherty, and Craig W. Doherty along with her four grandchildren Tyler Spillane, Patrick Doherty, Colton Doherty, and Michael Doherty. She is also survived by her cherished sisters Barbara Zanetti, and Roberta (Bobbi) Nealon and although they lived hundreds of miles apart, they were always connected by the heart and spoke with one another daily. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. To know Sandie was to love her. She will be remembered by her loving spirit, beautiful smile, kindness, warm heart, and radiant sparkle.

To Sandra's family---
So sorry for your loss. She was a wonderful, thoughtful person and will be greatly missed by many.
My husband and I are 'snow birds' in Vista Gardens and also from MA. We have gotten to know her more and more through the last few years--such a sweet lady.
When you look up at the night sky, know that the brightest star shining down is Sandra looking down on all of you and letting you know everything will be all right.
Sending the family our thoughts and prayers.
