Sandy McDonald Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 2, 2025.
Sandy Cannon McDonald, an amazing wife, daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend passed away March 12, 2025.

Sandy was born May 24, 1962 to Riley Badger Cannon and Deloris Marie Singleton Cannon. She married Scott Smith in 1982 and had their son Shance. They were divorced in 1986. She met the love of her life Jaime McDonald in 1988. They had two children, Colten James (1993) and Lacey Marie (2000) and they were married February 14th 2001. She loved her family more than anything else.

Sandy worked as a Pharmacy Technician for many years. First at Smith's Pharmacy (thanks Holly), then later with the University of Utah (thanks Clarice). She made many life long friends. She loved her job, and performed it with pride and excellence.

Sandy is preceded in death by her father, mother, and also by her brother Bert, who she loved with all her heart. Even though he liked to scare the crap out of her. She is survived by her husband Jaime, sister Sherrie, who was always her "ride or die", children Shance (Travis), Colten (Jamalyn), and Lacey (Durand), and her step children. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Tre'syn, Khyler, Asher, Brooklynn, Rahelynn, and one she met on their way into this life.

She will be loved and missed by many more than could ever be named.

Celebration of Life services will be held at Travis and Shance's home on Sunday April 13th starting at noon. 1531 E Winward Dr. Holladay, UT 84117.

I have been friends with Sandy since elementary school. She and I spent a lot of time together. Going to each other's houses for milk and cookies, being locker partners in junior high and my partner in crime in High School and some years after to being somewhat older ladies. Happy times and struggles throughout time. Through it all there has been alot of love. I dearly loved her and her family that has gone before her, love her Sis and love the beautiful family she and Jamie created.
Jaimie and her children and grandchildren were her heart.
Sandy had true, forever friends that loved her dearly, a devoted husband and wonderful children and grandchildren. A rich life. That says a lot about who she was as a person.
Holly suggested that I listen to two of her favorite songs. I did. "Thank you for Loving me" by Bon Jovi ( We saw Bon Jovi at the Red Rocks in Colorado) and Smile by Kelly Clarkston. They express Sandy's thoughts and actions so well!
Until we meet again you'll be in our hearts.
Thank you for Loving me and I am going to Smile and think of you no matter what!

I´m so sorry to learn of Sandy´s passing. She was too young, and such a lovely person. I liked her a lot. I know Jaime will be lost without her.

I went to school with her son Colten, they lived next door. She was so bubbly and sweet. We spoke often on social media and she was so kind to my special needs daughter who loved her fish tank when we came over to visit. I last visited her in 2023 before xmas to ask to borrow a pizzelle iron. Instead, she gave it to me and asked that I " think of her every time I make pizzelles". .I sure will Sandy! Thank you for blessing us with your light.

Gosh...Sandy and I have been bestest of friends for years. Our friendship was unique. We were on/off during our school years as we had different interests but she knew I was there for her and she was there for me. It didn´t matter the time between. So now it´s the big "time between" and that makes me sad. But I know I will see her again. Just today I was thinking of you Sandy and I turned the TV on and one of your favorite movies was on "no water for elephants". I know you will send us signs of your love and I will always look for them. I can´t believe you are really onto the biggest adventure! I will love you forever.
