Sarah Scott Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 13, 2007.
SCOTT _ Sarah Elizabeth (nee Downey) 1908 - 2007 Our deep sense of loss and sorrow is tempered with joy in memory of a long life well lived. Sarah passed peacefully away in the early morning of September 10 at the Oilfields General Hospital in Black Diamond following a short illness. To the very end she remained engaged in all aspects of life and with an incredible and colorful memory she wove the past and present into a beautiful record of a long life filled with so much. She had a wonderful sense of humor and fun, was always ready for anything at the drop of a hat and remained spirited, interested and engaging. Regret was a word that was never spoken by Sarah - she accepted all that life gave her, good and bad, happy and sad. She kept much in her heart but moved on with life and was eager for tomorrow. I do not believe a bedtime prayer was ever missed. Sarah had many friends and each and every one was incredibly special to her and she remained loyal, supportive and in touch with them always. She delighted in their company. Survived by her loving family, Sarah leaves to mourn, her only daughter, Beverly Scott (Pete) who lived with and cared for her at home in Black Diamond; grandchildren, Matt (Linda) Scott, Dan (Carol) Scott, Jenny (Randy) Diggins, Debbie Scott (Bill Battensby), George (Heather) Scott, Jarret (Shelley) Scott and Shelly (Dean) Barber. She also delighted in her thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and trying to keep up with the rapid growth and changes of a modern world. She was not adverse to voicing her disapproval of the modern ways but that never diminished the love she had for them. Sarah had a vast extended family of nieces and nephews and their children, who all held such a special place in her life and their regular contact and love so helped to fill the ache in her heart at the loss of all her own boys. She was predeceased by her loving and wonderful husband Walter in 1984, sons Tom in 1999, Robert in 2002 and Jim in 2003. A Celebration of Sarah's Life will be held in her own beautiful garden at 413 - 1 Street S.W., Black Diamond on Saturday, September 15, at 2:00 p.m. We would like to extend our deepest appreciation and respect to the team of wonderful people who, over many years, cared for her. Dr. Branch, Dr. Grisdale, Dr. Cunning and all of the lovely ladies within the Oilfields General Hospital. Sarah never stopped marveling at how fortunate we were to have such a wonderful place in our community and they most certainly served her so very gently and so well. In Sarah's memory, memorial contributions may be made to the S.T.A.R.S. Air Ambulance, 1441 Aviation Park N.E., Box 570, Calgary, Alberta T2E 8M7. Arrangements are in care of SNODGRASS FUNERAL HOMES (Okotoks). Telephone: 938-3111. To e-mail condolences please visit: www.snodgrassfuneralhomes.com .

She will always be "Mrs. Scott" to me. A little girl in the 50's wouldn't dream of addressing an adult by her first name. Mrs. Scott was my next-door neighbour, the mother of my best friend, and my friend. Fifty years later, the memories remain, still dear to my heart. I remember her cheery greeting, (It was "Hello, Dear," -- she always called me "Dear") her hospitality, and her laughter. I remember the hot July day when she suddenly turned the garden hose on me, and her gleeful laughter at my shocked response. Mrs. Scott often remembered that moment, and always had a good laugh reminding me of it. Of the the many threads that have combined to form the fabric of my life, some of the warmest and strongest were those early strands woven in by my good friends Sarah Scott and her daughter Beverly.

Rest Well, Mrs. Scott. God Bless.

Joanna
