Sergio Nicholas "Serge" Neri, age 100, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, in
Trumbull, Connecticut. A devoted family man, decorated veteran, and lifelong educator, Serge lived a century marked by service, creativity, and deep-rooted love for his family and the natural world.
Born on May 2, 1925, in Urbania, Italy, Sergio immigrated to the United States where he would go on to build a life of purpose and dedication. He graduated from Central High School before continuing his education at Central Connecticut State College. His academic journey culminated in a Master's degree in Education from New York University-an achievement that reflected his commitment to learning and teaching.
Immediately after graduating high school, Serge enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. After completing cadet training, he served as a bomber pilot for the remainder of the war. He often reflected with awe on the responsibility entrusted to him and his fellow young airmen piloting B-17 bombers at just 18 years old. His military career continued with distinction as he later retired with the rank of Captain from active duty in the Air Force Reserves.
Following his military service, Sergio dedicated himself to education as an industrial arts teacher at Central High School. In this role, he combined technical skill with patience and mentorship-qualities that left a lasting impression on generations of students.
Sergio was predeceased by his beloved wife Marjorie Neri; his parents Giuseppe and Erminia Neri; his sister Ethel DiMaio; and his brother William Neri. He is survived by his daughters Carla Neri-Jayson, son in law Paul Jayson, Pamela Neri, son in law Bob Casey, and son Paul Neri. He also leaves behind loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren who carry forward his legacy of resilience and ingenuity.
A man of boundless creativity and tenacity, Serge had an extraordinary ability to build, repair, or design anything from scratch. Whether it was crafting something useful or restoring what others might discard, he approached every project with care and precision.
Perhaps nowhere was Sergio more content than in his garden. An avid gardener throughout his life, he spent countless hours tending to his yard-nurturing flowers and vegetables alike with reverence for nature's rhythms. The garden was not only a place of beauty but also a reflection of Serge's enduring spirit: patient, nurturing, and quietly powerful.
In later years, Sergio was blessed to spend time with Marjorie-his sweetheart-in their cherished home filled with memories built over decades together. His final days were tranquil and full of love as he was surrounded by family.
Sergio Nicholas "Serge" Neri leaves behind a legacy rooted in service-to country, community, craft, and kin. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and inspiration to all who hear his story.
