SHEILA G. SMITH, 70

LAKELAND - Sheila G. Smith, (70), of Lakeland, FL passed away on December 20, 2020.
A lifelong Florida resident, she attended King High School and began her professional career as a dental assistant in Tampa. She was a devoted wife and homemaker for many years and later returned to the work force as an ESE Para Professional for Hillsborough and Polk County Schools working with special needs students.
A petite and classy lady, Sheila was slow to anger and quick to forgive. She spent many years attending Shriners events with her husband and was herself a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Sheila loved her family, friends, and fur babies relentlessly. She was a wonderful sister, aunt, cousin and nana. She was a precious soul who touched many lives and will be missed every day.
In retirement, she enjoyed beach trips with her sister and niece, attending high school socials with lifelong friends, lunch outings and Hallmark movie marathons.
Sheila is preceded in death by her husband James D. Smith 'Sonny' of Lakeland, FL, her parents J.T. and Edith Pharr of Tampa, FL and her brother Jerry Pharr of Tampa, FL. She is survived by her sister, Pamela Wynne (Ned Grubb) of Tampa, FL and niece, Venessa Collins of Alpharetta, GA; niece Heidi Kallett (Joel) of Vienna, VA and their children Ethan and Jordan; nephew Jerry Pharr Jr. (Sharrah) of Austin, TX and son Townes; aunt Katherine Griffin of Tampa, FL; stepdaughter Melanie Medley Cosby of Carrollton, GA and her children Richard 'Amir' and Rima Nasser; and numerous nieces, nephews and loved ones.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Sunday, January 10, 2021 at Blount Curry Funeral Home Carrollwood Chapel with visitation from 12-2. Covid 19 guidelines will be enforced and a virtual option for services will be available online at

An outdoor Celebration of Life reception will follow services at the Carrollwood Country Club.
Interment will be at a later date in Atlanta, GA at Arlington Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.
