FITCHBURG -- Stephen M. Johnson, 56, of Fitchburg, died Sunday, July 1, unexpectedly.

He leaves two sisters, Jo-Anne P. Cauley and her husband, William, of Leominster, and Susan A. Johnson of Fitchburg; two nephews, Daniel Cauley of Tallahassee, FL, Benjamin Cauley of Brighton, MA; and his niece, Leah Cauley of Leominster; his dear friend, Frances Lynch of Fitchburg; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by a sister, Deborah A. Johnson in 1973.

Mr. Johnson was employed at the former General Electric Co. in Fitchburg as a Machinist for several years, most recently for the Town of Harvard DPW.

He was a 1973 graduate of Fitchburg High School, and found joy in camping, fishing, his love of NASCAR racing, all Boston professional sports teams and his dogs.

He was born in Fitchburg, on August 14, 1955, a son of the late Norman and Barbara (Mellitt) Johnson, and lived here all of his life.

JOHNSON -- Funeral Services will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 10, at 10:00 a.m. in the Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli and Fitchburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., Fitchburg, with Rev. Mary Ann Barry officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Society, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01707 or may be left at the Funeral Home.
