Stephen Rice Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 14, 2024.
Stephen Byron Rice, born on October 6, 1959, in La Marque, Texas, passed away peacefully at home in LM, Texas, on December 9, 2024. Surrounded by the comfort of the place he cherished most, Stephen's final moments were filled with love and peace.

Stephen was the beloved son of Charles and Bonnie Rice. He is lovingly remembered by his four children: Kelli Fattig (Lyle) of Cypress, TX; Kandice Rice (Tom Nelson) of Friendswood, TX; Joseph Rice (Danielle) of LaMesa, CA; and Austin Rice (Delralyn) Rosharon, TX. His legacy continues through his twelve grandchildren: Patrick Nelson, Emersyn Sager, Caleb Fattig, Masyn Sager, Carter Rice, Cole Fattig, Kaedyn Nelson, Madelyn Nelson, Addison Rice, Kaeden Atilee, Ayden Rice, and Jaeden Rice. Stephen is also survived by his sister Deborah Bowman (David), his brother Chuck Rice (Cynthia), and numerous nieces and nephews who held him dear. He shared a special connection with his ex-wife Terri Scurlock, whom he affectionately called his "#1."

A proud lifelong resident of La Marque, Stephen worked for Amoco Oil until a life-altering motorcycle accident in 1996. Despite this challenge, he faced life with unwavering resilience and a generous spirit. Stephen's love for motorcycles endured throughout his life, as did his enthusiasm for cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. Above all else, he treasured time spent with family and friends. Known for his kind heart and selflessness, Stephen had a remarkable ability to form meaningful connections and was always ready to lend a helping hand.

His warmth and compassion will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. May his memory inspire love and kindness for generations to come. Steve always said "Good things come to those who wait" and we all know he is having a good time with Jesus!

"I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith." - 2 Timothy 4:7-

Steve Rice was a man of integrity. My daughter Tara and I spent many years at his home with his family. New Years traditional dinner is something he taught me and I´ve never missed a year since then. He helped for people, he helped, he came from a great family. We had so much laughter and this will be my first year to not hear from him with his Christmas cards. I hope he and my late husband have met and are swapping stories. I´ll be missing both this year.

My sincere condolences for the loss of Steve Rice and all he left behind. Thank you for the memories and please know how much you were loved.

We grew up together, I loved when we were all swimming in the back yard and Uncle Charles would make ice cream for us. We had a blessed childhood with loving parents. You will be missed.

I have fond memories of the times we spent together as kids in LaMarque. It seems like yesterday! Stephen was an important part of those memories, as the Rice family took me under its wings and made me a part of it. Stephen was as much my little brother as anyone. My heart smiles remembering his wonderful sense of humor and the twinkle in his eyes. My soul knows he is in heaven with his daddy. My everything aches for those he left behind. My never ending love to you all, Bonnie, Deborah, and Chuck.
