Stephen (Steve) Edwards Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 24, 2025.
A man's life can be summed up in a story and no one liked to tell a story more than Stephen "Steve" Burrus Edwards.

Steve was born on September 23, 1948, in Dallas Texas to Ann and Cecil Edwards. He graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas in 1967 before entering the University of Texas at Austin. He graduated with his Juris Doctor from the University of Texas at Austin Law School in 1974.

He practiced as an Assistant District Attorney in Travis County before entering private practice.

When not practicing law, Steve spent his time coaching various sports for his children; going on impromptu road trips with his family to such destinations as the Grand Canyon, Glacier National Park, and Telluride, Colorado; tinkering on automobiles; cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, despite their 30-year championship drought; elk-hunting in Wyoming; and earning his black belt in Shuai Jiao (kung-fu wrestling), as well as competing in full-contact tournaments well into middle age.

Throughout it all, Steve was known for his gregarious, loquacious nature, often recounting his various (mis)adventures and entertaining everyone with a laugh. He was an avid history buff, a frequent customer of Matt's El Rancho restaurant where he enjoyed the Bob Armstrong dip, a fan of Western films (his favorite being Jeremiah Johnson), the music of The Doors, and the comedies of Rodney Dangerfield and Peter Sellers.

Steve passed away on August 14th, 2025. He is survived by his wife Deborah, his sons Brandon and Hunter, his daughter Paige, his daughters-in-law Jessie and Pamela, and his grandson Finn. He will be honored by his family in the weeks to come with one last road trip to lay him to rest in Wyoming.

Steve, we will continue to tell your tales.
