Steve Schultz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 23, 2024.
Steven Kenneth Schultz, 76, of Forest Lake, MN, fulfilled the cowboy's prayer passing away on September 8, 2024, after a lengthy battle with Lewy body disease.

Steve was born on January 18, 1948, in Preston, MN. After graduating from Franklin (MN) High School, he worked the land farming before enlisting in the Minnesota National Guard.

After a 6-year stint in the military, Steve began the pursuit of his lifelong passion of professional rodeo. Steve was a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) for over 20 years competing in steer wrestling and his primary event of calf roping. He won scores of rodeos across the United States and was a perennial qualifier of the Great Lakes Circuit Finals.

It was in 1971 at a rodeo in Minnesota where Steve was introduced to Pamela Elaine Brown. They married on April 29, 1972, going on to have three children, Cameron and twins Brooke and Sorell. While much of their time was spent traveling the United States rodeoing, the family eventually put down roots, settling in Gilman, Iowa in 1979.

After retiring from professional rodeo, Steve continued his love of the sport by training countless horses and mentoring others chasing their own rodeo dreams. Looking for warmer weather and a new adventure, Steve and Pam moved from Iowa to Junction City, Kansas in 2005.

After 16 years in Kansas, Steve and Pam sold their ranch and moved closer to family and back to where Steve's story began. They settled in Forest Lake, Minnesota.

Steve was predeceased by his father, Alfred, mother, Elaine, and half-brother David Sickle. He is survived by his wife, Pam; sister, Ardis Wellman; half-brothers Darrell (Eddi) Sickle, Don (Naomi) Hanson, Jon (Debbie) Aske, and Jan Markison; his three children, Cameron (Raegan) Schultz, Brooke (Greg) Schultz, and Sorell (Drew) Elbert; and his five grandchildren, Nic, Lauren, and Shane Elbert and Quinnlyn and Harrison Schultz.

The family would like to express their gratitude to AccentCare Hospice for their care and compassion for Steve and family.

A memorial will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2024, starting at 1 p.m. at the Cedar Falls Rotary Preserve in Cedar Falls, Iowa. In lieu of flowers and donations, the family asks that you do a random act of kindness in Steve's honor.
