My apologies for being so late in writing this note - I just learned of Steve's passing, and I am so very very saddened to hear of it. He was a wonderful friend and colleague, a soul full of life; frankly I cannot think of enough superlatives to describe him. We worked together for several years in the Navy Department in the 1990s, and we kept in touch over the years on a sporadic basis. My heart goes out to his family - I wish you the very best. May God rest his soul. I miss you already, Steve.

I met Steve a few years ago and I will never forget it it was the most motivational experience that I've ever felt ... You gave me positive output and you gave me something to look forward to Steve for that I will always love you and how you took care Of my favorite Family.. I will always remember you I've still had the card that you gave me.. Anything else will be said when I see you at the crossroads.... Bless your soul Steve...

I went to school with Steve through Midwood High School. Not only was he among the more brilliant students in the classroom, but he was an absolutely relentless punster. Starting with "Apun my word...", Steve would riff a string of puns, quick to respond to any mere mortal trying to join in with another string of puns! I am so sorry to learn of his passing, as he is among the first of our "group" to leave us. Missing you, Steve!

I am shocked to learn of Steve's passing. Although we had not been in touch for some years now, Steve was one of my oldest friends, having met in become friends at Hudde JHS in Brooklyn. My heart goes out to Irene and Ana

This is a hard loss, as a friend and colleague of the Honorable (Most Honorable) Steven. My heart and soul go out to his beloved wife and daughter, whom he spoke about frequently, and in such glowing terms. He never shied from controversy, nor did he drive a hard bargain on behalf of those who were in need, be it a shoulder to cry on, or who came to him for wise counsel. Steven´s death leaves behind many broken hearts. For he was one of a Kind. May he Rest In Peace.

So sad to learn of the passing of "the Honorable." What a blend of intellect & humor. To Steven´s daughter, please know that your Dad was unbelievably proud of you. He knew I was headed to Europe and so thoroughly wanted me to go see something you were doing. Rarely did he tire of telling of your activities. I was one of the Navy field attorneys working on whales & the USN. My sincere condolences at the loss of your Dad.

Steven was a "Legal Eagle" and sage advisor to our company. We could always count on him to bring insight, ideas and solutions to the business/legal challenges we faced. His passion and dedication for the causes he cared about (including the environmental causes associated with our business) were infectious. It was an honor to know him. Irene and Ana, thank you for sharing Steven with us and the world. His work and legacy left our world in a better place.
With sympathy,
JG

I had the privilege of knowing and working with Steve for just 12 months late in his life. This brief time was enough for me to realize what a nice and warm human being he was... A solid professional and a great patriot... My sincere condolences to Steve's family and all of his friends and colleagues who mourn this great loss.

All the good things said about him in this Obituary are understatements. One of the most interesting person I ever met. He will be greatly missed by many.

I am sending heartfelt condolences to Irene and Ana. Steve, and Irene, were delightful dinner partners for me and my late husband, starting back in law school. When they moved to DC., we kept up at reunions and along the political fund-raiding trail. We loved Steve´s trenchant perspectives and wit, his zest for life, and his steadfast devotion to Irene and Ana. He leaves a hole in many lives.

Steve was a force of nature, and a great partner in the effort to protect the ability of the Navy to train realistically while fully protecting marine mammals and the environment. He was a great colleague, and friend.

A heartbreaking loss for his family, friends, colleagues, and our country. I will always treasure the many hours spent with Steve on the phone or on Zoom discussing the law, the Navy, and his dining and lodging suggestions for Washington DC. He always mentioned his lunches with Ana. May his memory be a blessing.
