Steven Osterhout Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 27, 2024.
Steven Michael "Butch" Osterhout, aged 69, passed away on June 22, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky, where he was also born on November 7, 1954.

Butch leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted wife of nearly 50 years (August 10, 1974), Deb "momma" Osterhout; daughter "Bugs", Erin McCombs (Eric); grandchildren, Nathan and Katherine McCombs; grand dog, Piper; sisters, Janet Ackerman and Linda Horseman (Rick); brother-in-law, Curtis Veatch (Junie); sister-in-law, Wanda Masterson; many beloved nieces and nephews, and his faithful cats, Pepper, Rosy, and Wombat. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Evelyn Osterhout, and his beloved nephew "our boy", Troy Masterson.

Butch was a man of many talents and interests. His passions included model railroading and building models to a deep appreciation for space, NASA, and military history, particularly admiring General George S. Patton ("Be seated"), Wild West history, picking his 6 and 12 string guitars (self-taught), music (most all genres), flower gardening, Old Scratchy Records, flea market/junkin'. There was nothing he couldn't repair or create, and he had a strong sense of humor ("Radio Butch"). His favorite holiday was Christmas, and he loved his collection of Possible Dreams Santas. He also loved being outdoors.

A valiant warrior till the end. I'm gonna love you forever and ever, forever and ever. Amen. Until we meet again my love. ~ Deb

Butch was an awesome uncle (brother). I enjoy my time with you. If it was observing your trains or playing guitars. I love you and will miss you so much...

Greg and I made a trip to Louisville to visit. Butch, Greg and I stayed up for hours just playing guitars. We had a wonderful time. Butch was such a good guitar player. Sincerely Michael Masterson

I only knew Butch for a few years, but I'll always cherish those memories. We were neighbors, living across the street from each other, and we shared many interests like old trains, models, and playing guitar, among others. We could talk for hours, and we often did. One summer day, Butch came over wearing a NASA ball cap. I admired it, and the very next day, he surprised me with a brand new one just like his. That's what a true friend does! I'll miss having you as a neighbor and as a wonderful friend!

Butch and Debbie are our beloved neighbors and dear friends. Butch was a very kind man with a great sense of humor. I am going to miss coming out and talking to him. I´m going to miss coming over and seeing their beloved cats loving on him while sitting on the couch, he definitely was the cat whisperer. My heart goes out to Debbie, as she goes through the grief of losing her loving husband. We are going to miss you greatly Butch. We will keep your family in our thoughts and prayers as always. Butch and Debbie, we love you all always!
