Susan Blizzard-Halleran, 67, of Jamesville, passed away peacefully at home on December 31st. She was born to Henry and Jane Blizzard in Massapequa, New York, where she spent her youth. After graduating from Massapequa High School she studied undergraduate nursing at Columbia University followed by graduate nursing anesthesia, also at Columbia. While working at The Roosevelt Hospital in New York City, she met and married the love of her life, Dr. David Halleran. After spending a year in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the two moved to Syracuse in 1983 to start their family. She was intensely devoted to her four children and was actively involved in various activities at the Holy Cross Elementary School and Christian Brothers Academy over their schooling years. She never missed a baseball game, swim meet, figure skating competition, or any other event in which they participated. She always stressed the importance of schoolwork and sports and games always came second to academics— lessons which have proven invaluable to their respective careers. She was very proud of each of her children, and would publicize their successes to anybody willing to listen. Susan worked for thirty-seven years as a nurse anesthetist for CNY Anesthesia Group. Her warm, compassionate approach to patient care helped countless patients of all ages through surgery. She was an experienced and skilled anesthesia provider, and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge posed by her work. Although she loved traveling around the world, Susan most enjoyed spending time at the family vacation home in Duck, North Carolina. The Outer Banks was an annual family destination for thirty years, the majority of which the Hallerans were accompanied by extended family and friends who, over the years, also became family. The memories made on those trips will be cherished forever. She spent much of her last year away from work due to the COVID pandemic, over which time she and her husband completed moving into and renovating their new home— one that she looked forward to filling with memories with friends, her children, and grandchildren for years to come. Although her absence will always be felt, her family is committed to realizing this in her memory. Susan is survived by her loving husband of 38 years Dr. David Halleran, her children Dr. Devin Halleran, Kerry Halleran-McCarthy (Michael McCarthy), Shannon Halleran-Twichell (Matthew Twichell), Kyle Halleran (Jennifer Clarici), four grandchildren, Carter (3), Harper (2), Maeve (1), and Hailey (7 months), two brothers, Bryan and Gary, several nieces and nephews, and countless friends around the world. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 11 AM at Holy Cross Church, Dewitt NY. To view a live stream of the service please follow the following link. https://vimeo.com/496902022/8056d963dc Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2020 from 4-8 PM at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home, 3175 East Genesee St. Syracuse. I worked with Susan for 9 years while with CNY Anesthesia Group at Crouse hospital and Madison-Irving outpatient Surgical Center. I knew I had met a kindred spirit after the first time we met at Madison-Irving in 2000. As a transplant to Syracuse from Iowa City, Iowa, Sue made me feel welcome and comfortable in my new work environment. As a fellow nurse anesthetist, I respected her experience and knowledge regarding the art of anesthesia care. She was able to blend her nursing skills and anesthesia knowledge into a truly elegant delivery of perioperative anesthesia nursing care. The Roth family sends condolences to her family. Our prayers are with you all. Susan will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace my friend and colleague.

So sorry to hear about your mom. I really enjoyed her positive personality and attitude while our kids were swimming for and attending CBA. She was a good listener and gave me some great advice regarding my children as they headed off to college. I really liked her, and David and Shannon (whom I knew the best!!).
Thinking of you all,
Fondly,

1/4/2021 Dear Dr. Halleran and Family, my sincere sympathy on Mrs. Halleran's passing. I was quite surprised to read in the paper she passed. The times in the past when we saw each other in the Surgery Center while waiting for my Husband's surgery to end, she would always come up to me to say hello and offered any help she could give and checking on Richard's procedure to see if everything was going well. She always returned to give me an update. I appreciated that so much. She was always so friendly and outgoing and always treated me like a lifelong friend. She will be in my prayers. I have experienced the loss of my spouse of 50 yrs. recently and I know how devastated it feels. Keep all those wonderful memories you both made together and with your children and grandchildren. She will always be in your thoughts and heart. You both were a wonderful example of a very good loving marriage and made a perfect team in parenting your children helping them become all successful. My prayers for all of you. Sincerely, Barbara Esposito(former employee of CRA)
