Teresa Lonergan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 2 to Mar. 3, 2008.
TERESA LONERGAN (nie KEAVY) 1925 - 2008 On Friday, February 1, 2008 at Credit Valley Hospital, after a brief battle and a long, fulfilled life. Teresa, aged 82, wife of the late Jimmy Lonergan, much-loved matriarch of a large Irish brood: Dermot (Pam), Sean (Norma), Geraldine (Larry Campbell), Brian (the late Kathy Tekic), Bernadette (Joel May), and Kathryn. Grandmother of 13: Michelle, Gavin, Ryan, Jamie, Jesse, Quinn, Drew, Jake, Brendan, Hannah, Michael, Jason, and Amanda. Great-grandmother of Shelby and Dermot. Born in Ennis, County Clare, Ireland, Teresa was one of 10 children. Having met Jimmy (also a County Clare man) in England, they married in 1948, and settled in Dublin before beginning a new adventure in Canada in 1957, along with the 4 eldest children. Canada was her chosen home but Ireland was never far from her heart (or her accent). After Jimmy passed away in 1992, Teresa's family took her far and wide culminating in a last trip for her 80th birthday to the home of her birth. She loved nothing better than being around her family, never missing a Sunday dinner, a birthday, or a holiday celebration. A cloud of silver-white hair, a beautiful and ever-present smile, and a readiness to take pleasure in everyday life marked her presence. She delighted and charmed all who knew her. Her legacy, more powerful than any other in the end, is the family who loved her with complete devotion and who rarely left her side during these past few difficult weeks. Wherever you are today, raise a glass to those you love and revel in their presence. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga (Hwy. 10, N. of the QEW) on Monday, February 4, 2008 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Remembrance will be held at St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church, 625 Atwater Ave., Mississauga, on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a reception. If desired, memorial donations to the Credit Valley Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
