Terry King Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 4, 2025.
Terry Lein King, age 74, left this earth peacefully on May 24, 2025. Born on May 6, 1951, in Charleston, West Virginia, he was the oldest of three children and the cherished son of Barbara and Bob King.

Terry began his career in West Virginia as a mortgage banker, a path that took him to Houston, TX; Gaithersburg, MD; and finally, Dallas, TX. After 30-plus years in the banking world, Terry moved on to Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops, which highly suited him, as he was a lifelong fisherman and hunter. He spent many years on hunting trips with his brother, uncles, cousins, nephews, and sons. He greatly enjoyed his three children, the outdoors, a nice glass of W.L. Weller Special Reserve bourbon, and never skipped a nap.

Although he would say otherwise, Terry adored dogs and cats-especially when they curled up next to him or even on top of him for a nap. If you ever needed Terry, you could find him on his couch napping or watching a classic Western, at the piano playing '60s and '70s music, or outside having a Marlboro Light with his bourbon in hand. Mostly a quiet man, he was always quick to tell a joke or dance to some of his favorite bands which included Toto, the Doobie Brothers, Jackson Browne, Dire Straits, The Who, or Chicago, to name a few.

Besides his children, one of his proudest commitments was being a devout Catholic and spending many years singing in the St. Rita choir. Terry will be deeply missed by all, but we find comfort in knowing that he is at peace and reunited with his son.

Terry is preceded in death by his father, Bob King, and his beloved son, Travis King.

Those left to carry on his legacy are his daughter, Ann Marie; his son, Ryan; and their spouses, David and Meg. He will forever be remembered as the fun and goofy Opie by his nine grandchildren: Madeline, Wyatt, Savannah, John Ryan, Roslyn, Akira, Caddis, Elli, and Revere. He is also survived by his mother, Barbara; brother, Tim; sister, Becky; former wife, Claudia; and many extended family members.

"Bumblebee, bumblebee, flew through the barn…"

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9th at St. Rita Catholic Church. A reception will follow at St. Rita Catholic Church

Terry King, a devoted father and passionate outdoorsman, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Terry was known for his deep love for his child, always putting family first and cherishing every moment they spent together.

A true outdoorsman at heart, Terry found joy and peace in nature. Whether casting a line by the lake or tracking through the woods during hunting season, he felt most at home under the open sky. His stories, laughter, and quiet strength will be missed by all who knew him.

Terry´s legacy lives on through the love he gave, the memories he created, and the family he held so dear. He will be forever missed

Terry was my boss for several years at 2 different companies and those were such fun times to be in the corporate world! Our office was truly like a family, and TK was our leader.

A few favorite memories: we filled Terry's office up top to bottom with balloons for his 40th birthday. Initially he wasn't too thrilled about it, but he got over it! Another time we were out to lunch for Admin Asst Day and we bumped into Mickey Mantle, the famous baseball player. So much fun - it was a blast working with you Terry, & getting to know your sweet family. Thank you for all you did for Jack & I. Rest in peace dear friend until we meet again.

I worked with Terry for several years in the mortgage servicing business. Easy to talk to and work with. We always had a lot of fun at CPI Training in Jacksonville FL and User Conferences at Amelia Island. Godspeed, Terry, see you on the other side one day.
