Terry Neill Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 18, 2025.
Terry Elaine Neill, 74, passed away on March 26, 2025, in Lawrenceville, GA. She was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Houston, TX, on April 18, 1950 to Ernest and Frances (Compton) Gill.

Terry attended Sam Houston High School and graduated in 1968. During her high school years, she worked as a candy striper at Memorial Baptist Hospital in Houston. Terry married shortly after high school, and soon brought son Steve and daughter Tessa into the world. Terry loved being a mother, and was very involved with her kids' extra-curriculars. In addition to coaching, she was the "team mom" who didn't mind sweaty hugs from all of the kids after a game. She enjoyed her home being the house where all of her children's friends came to hang out, even as they grew older and it became house full of teenagers! This love of a full house continued in her later years, as she hosted the Gill family get-togethers at "Sycamore Cottage" in Cleveland.

Terry was a talented seamstress, and while in high school made most of her own clothes. In later years, she made all of her sister's maternity clothes, all of the bridesmaid dresses for her niece's wedding, and a portion of her daughter-in-law's wedding outfit. Family was important to her, and she loved becoming "Mimi" to her grandchildren, and "Aunt Mimi" and "Aunt T" to her great-nieces and great-nephews. She could often be found sitting on the porch at Sycamore Cottage, drinking coffee and visiting while watching them play. She also took pleasure in creating art projects with the kids, as well as showing them how to cook. She was an animal lover, welcoming both dogs and cats into her home. This included multiple strays that made their home with the nice people at Sycamore Cottage who fed them and gave them a warm lap to sit in! In later years, she enjoyed overnights with the grandchildren, researching her family's ancestry, and watching The Hallmark Channel and HGTV. She also made an amazing potato soup!

Terry is survived by her children, Steve (Jennifer) Neill of Buford, GA, and Tessa (Casey) Wilken of Granbury, TX. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Shelby (Cody White) Denham of Weatherford, TX, Sydney Plitt of Granbury, TX, Wyatt Denham of San Marcos, TX, Luke (Aubry) Denham of Phoenix, AZ, Chloe Neill and Spencer Neill, both of Buford, GA, and great-grandson Henry George "Georgie" Plitt IV of Granbury. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Pam (Royce) Wells of Willis, TX, and brother, Ernest Gill of Cleveland, TX, as well as six nieces and nephews and their children.

Terry was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Frances Gill; grandparents DeWitt and Ethel Compton, Jewel Moffett Gill, J.L. and Eline Gill, as well as her aunts and uncles.

A memorial service and luncheon for Terry will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025 in Willis, TX.
