Although I knew Tom in high school, we didn't really become close friends until we were at DVC together. He was always a thoughtful, kind, and upbeat person. We enjoyed sharing stories with each other after classes were over. I can remember sitting with him many days on the lawn, talking about school, friends, and life. While he was on his "semester at sea", we exchanged letters. He recently had sent them back to me in an envelope - he had saved them all these years! We enjoyed visiting with each other, and our respective spouses, whenever we were in Maui at the same time. He was a true friend, and will be thought of fondly and missed forever!

Maui was the perfect place for his ashes to be scattered - I know he loved it there. We had several mini reunions in Kaanapali and enjoyed getting together at our "home away from home". We only met in high school, but got to be good friends while in junior college at DVC. He surprised me a year or so ago by sending me an envelope full of the letters I sent him while he did his "semester at sea". It meant a lot that he had kept them all this time. No matter how many years had passed it was always like we had just picked up where we left off. He was a lifelong friend who will be deeply missed for the rest of mine.

Met Tom when we were in high school. He was on the swim team and I was the starter. He also sat behind me in geometry class. I would let him copy my homework. He asked me if it was alright to love someone different and I told him to follow his heart. I knew he was struggling but it seemed to help. After 49 years it was a great choice.
