Thomas Fister Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 30, 2023.
Thomas Edward Fister, age 72, of Copley, OH, passed away on October 24, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He had a strong faith in Jesus and is now home in Heaven.

Thomas was born on August 25, 1951 in Akron, OH to the late Peter and Leona "Betty" (Bye) Fister. He spent his formative years working on the family farm and fixing just about anything that he could get his hands on at the family home on Rothrock Circle, Copley. He graduated from Copley High School in the class of 1969.

From a young age, Thomas had an adventurous spirit and an insatiable thirst for knowledge and problem-solving. In his 20s, he became a Journeyman Machinist, honing his skills and expertise. His sense of adventure often took him on the open road during the 1970s, exploring the country on his beloved BMW motorcycle - riding 48 States and 8 Canadian Provinces during that time. It was during one of his returns to Copley that he met the love of his life, Susan ('Susie'), and they married in 1979.

His passion for mechanics and technical expertise led him to train as an aircraft mechanic for commercial airlines through the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. He eventually retired from the airline industry in 2014 after a long and successful career.

Thomas was a devoted husband of 41 years (to his late wife, Susie), loving father, and doting grandfather. He cherished his family, especially his grandchildren, who he claimed to "love more than life itself."

In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Susie, and brothers, Leroy and Robert.

He is survived by his children, Dr. Thomas Joseph (Jessica) Fister and Daniel (Sarah) Fister, and his cherished grandchildren (of Daniel & Sarah) Madison, McKenzie, Hailey, and Colton, as well as his brother, Peter John, and many other loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Thomas's strong faith in Jesus Christ brought comfort and assurance to his loved ones during his final days, and they find solace in knowing that he is now home in Heaven.

Visitation for friends and family may be held at Lakeside Christian Church on Saturday, November 4, 2023, between 2-4 pm, with a Celebration of Life service at 4 pm with Pastor Petar Nenadov Officiating.

Inurnment will take place at Copley Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lakeside Christian Church, 3535 Knollwood Ln, Akron, OH 44333, in Thomas' memory.

A live stream of the service will be available during the 4 pm Celebration of Life service for those who cannot otherwise attend: LakesideChristianChurch.org.

We knew Tom as a loving and faithful husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his family. He had an unwavering and resolute Christian faith and truly enjoyed his life on earth but also was confident and sure of his eternal life in Heaven. We feel glad and blessed to have had the chance to get to know Tom and share some very good times with him. Our condolences go out to his family and friends upon his passing, but our hearts are glad that both his and Sue´s eternal life with God and one another were secured through their steadfast faith in Christ Jesus. We will miss you Tom!
In loving memory,

I have many fond memories of Tom, especially around the time our daughter and his son Joe were getting married. One less obvious memory came when we parents were helping the couple during their move to Erie, PA. Tom was absolutely amazing. After his years handling giant plane tires that weighed 400 pounds, the heavy furniture and boxes that moving day presented no problem. We were in total awe of his strength and seemingly boundless energy. I still smile at how he saved the day. He was a great guy all around and totally devoted to Sue and their family.
