Thomas Martin Giltner, 89, of San Diego, died on October 29, 2022, in San Diego, CA. He died of natural causes in the comfort of his home surrounded by family.

He was born on January 28, 1933, to William Giltner and Dorla B. Giltner, on his family farm near Albia, Iowa.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife Emiliana Rose, his brother, Ron Giltner, and his son's, Irvin Giltner and Thomas Martin Giltner, Jr. He is survived by his children Jesse Giltner, Lillian Giltner Impastato, William Giltner, and Shirley Giltner Johnston, his brother, John Giltner, his sister Suann Hughes, as well as eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

He served over 30 years in the United States Navy as an Electronics Technician, where he served in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He later retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He then worked over 15 years for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Tom was known as "Papa" to all. He took great pride in his military service and was a member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. (VFW). He was a family man, an animal lover, and above all, the most loving and loved Papa.

Visitation will be on November 9, 2022, from 11:00am to 10:00pm at Funeraria del Angel Chula Vista.

Funeral Services will be held on November 10, 2022, at 10:00am at Saint Charles Catholic Church.

Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleum.

A Celebration of Life will take place at the VFW Post 5477 on November 10, 2022, at 4:00pm.

Huckle bearers will be William Giltner, Jesse Giltner, Anthony Impastato II, Thomas Giltner, Christopher Giltner, and Dylan Cadden.

Memorials or donations may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.

Our Papa loved big, lived large, and left a lasting legacy. There is nothing greater than to be loved by him. I hope he knows how much I loved him in return!
