Thomas Kunkel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 16, 2024.
Thomas James Kunkel, aged 67, passed away on November 15, 2024. Born on July 8, 1957, Tom was a resident of Lawrenceburg, where he lived with his beloved wife, Peggy Ravenscraft, and their animals. A graduate of Colerain High School in 1975, Tom dedicated many years to a successful career at Duke Energy. His deep passion for competitive weightlifting was a significant part of his life, continuing well into his retirement. Tom also found joy in coaching and woodworking, pursuits that reflected his diverse talents and interests. Tom was a loving husband, devoted father, and a caring son. Known for his quick wit and larger-than-life personality, he brought laughter and joy to every family gathering. His readiness to lend a helping hand endeared him to all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Peggy; his children, Logan (Tammy), Austin (Raegan), and Koby; and his grandchild, Naomi. He also leaves behind his mother, Alice; brothers, Robert (Derya), Daniel (Karen), and Greg (Tamie); sisters, Linda (Mark), Mary, and Beth; along with numerous nephews, great-nephews, nieces, great-nieces, aunts, and cousins. A family memorial celebration of Tom's life will be held in the coming weeks, where his memory will be honored and cherished.

I knew Tom from back in the '80s at the gym we used to work out at. Which actually was more of an institution. I always remember watching Tom chalking up to do his powerlifting. To this day, I always think of him when I hear an Elton John song. I just always remember him saying how he was awesome in concert. My condolences to the family and friends.

Recently found out of the sad passing of Tom. I knew him from back in the '80s at the gym which was like an institution. Always remember Tom chalking up while powerlifting. And to this day, every time I hear an Elton John song, I think of Tom. I just remember so clearly how he loved Elton John after seeing him in concert.

Thomas Kunkel, I have so many fond memories of you growing up, the list is long. You always had a quick wit, a smile that would light up a room and a laugh that was contagious. To this day I still remember going to Sunset Sports Center with you and you walked up to a large weight bar sitting on the floor with probably 300 pounds of weights on it, and a sign that said "do not touch". You say hey Scott, check this out as you bend down and pick it up with one hand and giggle, like it was a feather. Or the times you would purposely sit next to Grandma Ann for the card game Shanghi Rum so you could look at her hand and feed her cards she needed to win. The best was the puzzled look on her face saying how did you know I needed that card? And you would just play along with a response of Oh! DId you need that? While trying to keep a straight face. :) You're a gentle soul who will truly be missed by many.
Rest in peace
