Patty and Family,
I was saddened to hear of Tom's untimely passing.
He was a terrific person, and has left a tremendous legacy for his students!
Although it has been quite some time since I have seen Tom, I was with some WSU alumni a few weeks ago, and his name came up. Everybody smiled, and reflected on what a great guy he was, and a great teammate.
He was also a great Captain, who lead by example, which is why I am not surprised to read all of the great tributes from his students.
He had a great career, and will be missed by many.
I am sorry that I was out of town on business, and unable to attend the services.
Please know that we will keep you all in our prayers!

So sad to hear of Mr. Mulchahy's passing. I always struggled with math but was lucky enough to have him for geometry and computer science. He made those classes seem easy, which is no small feat. A great teacher who really enjoyed, and took pride in the job and genuinely cared about his students. When I think of him I always see him smiling and chuckling. Just a great guy. So sorry for your loss...

Patty, Nicholas, Patrick and Erin, Tom was a special man. It is a testiment to this special man to read the many, many sincere and heartfelt words of reflection by so many individuals. Clearly, few people rise to this level of respect and appreciation by so many. I feel so fortunate to have witnessed this special man every day during my thirty years as a colleague in education at Shepherd Hill. We all have our special memories of this special man and can be comforted in knowing that we will have the opportunity to share them when we see him again. God bless you.

Mr. Mulcahy was a favorite teacher back at SHRHS. I was a horrible math student, but I never dreaded his classes. He made math fun, even if unfathomable to me. And happier still are memories of being on the hockey pep squad. I'm fortunate and a better person for having known the man. Condolences to all who will dearly miss him.

When I attended Shepherd Hill, it was 7-12 and Algebra was taken in 7th grade and to pass was a prerequisite for graduation. The class was horrifically boring and the highlight was a student falling back in his chair, waking us up. Needless to say, I failed. I retook it in my sophomore year and had the privilege of being in Mr. Mulcahy's class. I knew from the first day that he was someone special, who had the ability to make learning fun. He treated us all as equals and on Mondays, we had the test grade ceremony from Friday's test. He made a big deal out of the worst grade, but it wasn't done to be mean spirited, it was to show that not everyone is going to do well all of the time and that a failure was a learning experience for the future. I passed his class because he made me want to learn and to make him proud. He had the ability to bring out the best in you without you even realizing. He was a gift I am honored to have been given and am thankful to his family for sharing him with so many. He will never be forgotten. Class of '82.

So sad to hear of the passing of my favorite teacher of all time and a great guy. The only teacher I continued to visit and sent christmas cards too. Precalc and Calc were a survivable and fun class because of him. I will forever remember kitty cat squared plus kitty cat squared because he would always find a way to help me understand the material. I wish I continued to visit over the years but life and time got away from me. RIP Mulch

My deepest condolences to all. I had Mr. Mulchahy several times at Shepherd Hill and considered him a mentor and a great friend. His guidance helped me excel in mathematics which lead to engineering school. Outside of the classroom he supported me through a very difficult time during my parents' divorce in high school. I will never forget him and the impact he has had on my life. I hope to someday return to favor in a similar capacity. Thank you again Mr. Mulcahy for everything. Rest in peace.

My deepest sympathy to the Mulcahy family. I was lucky enough to have Mr. Mulcahy for three math classes at Shepherd Hill. He made learning fun, and he made me and every student, feel smart, worthy, and capable. I remember going back to see him after my first year of college and telling him how much his classes helped me in my college math classes. I will never forget the positive impact he had on my life. I hope his family knows how many lives he touched through teaching.

To Patty and family, and the entire Mulcahy clan-my cousins:
Being one of the middle children in a family of 13 teaches you perspective. Tommy learned this trait at a tender age by observing in both directions at the life lessons being experienced by both his older siblings and his younger siblings. Later in his life as a teacher, he taught countless numbers of his students how keep their lives in perspective, whether it was good things happening to them or bad. Over the years I can't tell you how many kids from Charlton, when they found out Tommy was my cousin, expressed their respect for their teacher, coach, and mentor. He will be missed by many...
Personally, I often reflect on all the great times the DiGangi and Mulcahy clans had together throughout the years and remember as kids that Tommy was close to my age, so he was one of the cousins who I hung out with and we experienced life together. We had so much fun! Rest in peace Tommy....
Our condolences in this time of sadness.

I met Tom who we called Mr. Mulcahy at Shepherd Hill when he coached our hockey team. He was a LOT more than a coach to me at a time when I needed guidance. He went so far as to attend my first couple of classes with me at Worcester State college for a Trigonometry class that was a prerequisite to get into Engineering school. I was still in high school and college was a little intimidating to me and what Tom did was certainly above and beyond. I'll never forget that. I'm so sorry to his family. I hope you all take solace in the idea that although math can be "just about the numbers" he left behind a legacy of teaching and caring about his students that will live on.

I am so very saddened by your loss of what was one of the finest people I've ever had the honor to know. Shepherd Hill was a better place because of him and, frankly, one of the reasons I stayed there my entire career. He made me a better teacher and was an inspiration to us all; staff and students alike. His loss when he finally retired was profound, but this loss is far greater. The memories of his intelligent wit, rapport with his students, and ability to make everyone he came in contact with feel special will be our testament to a live well lived. He was taken too soon. I was glad to have known him for 27 years. God bless you.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. Mr. Mulcahy was my very favorite teacher and I was lucky to have him for four years at Shepherd Hill. He was always patient, kind, and funny in class. He was willing to help me when things weren't clicking, as they often did not for my least favorite subject. It's a testament to his ability to teach, but also his ability to be human. He never let me give up. Some years back I wrote him a note telling him I was contemplating going back to school to teach. I only wish I spent the time to email him the update. I did that and am currently in my fourth year teaching high school English. I am so lucky to be in the classroom. So much of that is owed to his inspiration. He will surely be missed as a teacher and friend, but please know how he often spoke of his family. You were certainly his most valued accomplishment. My deepest sympathies to your family.

To the family of the infamous Mulc Daddy,
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing man with us in the DC family. He was so respected as a teacher, coach, and colleague. He took his job seriously and connected with us as students in a professional, but friendly manner. The math parodies he created based on current rap songs were incredible and he taught us how to shake hands appropriately. On our birthdays he would sing, "Hey Shorty, it's your birthday. We're gonna do math like it's your birthday...." When the material got hard he'd yell, "Are you math mice or math MEN?!" (A line I use today with my own math students.) I could go on for hours about Mr. Mulcahy stories and I hope through these difficult times people will continue to share all their wonderful memories of him. I'm sorry for your loss but I'm so happy you shared a life with this amazing man.
