Tom Tischer

On January 12, 2025, Tom Tischer peacefully passed away in Olympia, Washington, surrounded by his loving family as they sang hymns of faith. He was 85 years old. A celebration of Tom's life will be held on Saturday, February 1, 1:00 pm at Littlerock Community Fellowship, 11510 Littlerock Rd SW, Olympia, WA 98512.

Tom was born on April 25, 1939, in Portsmouth, Virginia, to Humbert and Grace Tischer. After a brief time in Georgia, the family settled in Olympia, Washington, where Tom graduated from Griffin School and later Olympia High School in 1957. An active youth, he enjoyed the outdoors and playing baseball and football.

Following high school, Tom attended Washington State University before enlisting in the United States Navy in 1958. He served as an aviation electrician for four years. During this time, he married Ann Paul in 1959, and together they raised three children.

Tom dedicated much of his career to serving as a Washington state employee. Later in life, he felt called to ministry and graduated from Prairie Bible Institute at the age of 54. He and Ann served as missionaries with SIM in Ethiopia for two years before returning to Washington. Tom then worked for the Washington State Patrol until his retirement in 2005. In retirement, he and Ann enjoyed summers in Cannon Beach, Oregon; winters in Palm Desert, California; traveling with loved ones; and a memorable trip to visit relatives in Norway.

Tom is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Ann; his children Tammy Phillips (Mark), Carrie Pearce (David), and Paul Tischer; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his sister Jean Heidal. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.

Tom will be remembered for his quick wit, humor, and unconditional love and kindness. His family takes comfort in the hope of being reunited one day.
