Toni Smith Obituary
GREENSBORO — Mrs. Toni Alvis Smith, 64, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 4, 2009, at her residence.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, at Community Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Calhoun and Rev. J.R. Gossett officiating the service. The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7, at Guilford Memorial Park.
Mrs. Smith was a faithful member of Community Chapel Baptist Church. She had worked in the medical field for more than 30 years, and was the office supervisor for Eagle Physicians at Village.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Roger Smith.
She is survived by her children, Robin Elder and husband, Bobby, of Randleman, Ronda Calhoun and husband, Rev. Ray Calhoun, of Greensboro, and Kenny Smith and wife, Carole, of Randleman; grandchildren, Brooke Smith Martin and husband, Derek, Brock Elder, Zachary Calhoun, Brianna Calhoun, and Baylee Smith; sister, Brenda Roberts and husband, Charles, of Bowling Green, Ky.; nieces Bonnie Ham of Greensboro and Terri Bessette of Bowling Green, Kentucky. Also surviving are a step son, Chris Snider and wife, Tori, and their daughters, Sage and Kolby.
George Brothers Funeral Service is assisting the Smith family.

I would like to take the time to express my love for Toni. I could not find the words to say to you when I saw you last, although I had rehearsed the words over and over for an entire day. I want to tell you thank you. Thank you for coming in to my life as a child and taking me in with open arms and helping me through some of the toughest times of my life. Thank you for loving me, nurturing me, encouraging me and always listening to me. Thank you for never judging me. It was more than you know to have had you as a mom in my life. I will never forget you kneeling with me at the altar, holding my hand, praying and crying with me the night I was saved. I will always remember and cherish the nights we sat up till the early hours of the morning talking, laughing and crying. Always remember you making all of my ballgames. There has not been one person in my life that helped me with my self esteem and confidence more than you. There has not been one person in my life I have missed out on, more than you. I have considered you my mom for more than half of my life and I will consider to do so until the day I leave this world. I have told my son many stories about you and i wish now he had known you. It is a blessing for all who had the pleasure of knowing you. It is a tragedy for all of those who didn't. I will miss you more than you know and though the years have separated us, I still hold you dear to me. There is a hole in my heart that can never be filled. I love you Toni and I am proud to call you mom, I always have been. I am sorry for the time that passed and I am sorry for not being there for you. Your light is one that will never go out, but be a presence in my life always.
