Tris Coffin

OBITUARY TRIS COFFIN 1912 - 2010 Passed away peacefully on July 29, 2010, at the age of ninety-eight. Devoted husband of Gilberte Desmarais and of the late Jacqueline St-Germain, beloved father of Tris (Micheline Cloutier) and Paul (Jose Daignault). He also leaves to mourn his grandchildren Paul Jr., Dominique-Ann (Benoit Hamel), Julie (Alain DeKoninck) and Charles (Danielle Laplante), and his seven great-grandchildren. Third generation optician, Tris ran a successful operation on McGill College Avenue in downtown Montreal for over thirty-five years and was a much respected and admired member of the business community. However, his true passion developed through his association with the Lions Clubs organization where he was active for more than seventy years. A Lion since 1939, he has held numerous offices including district governor, chairman of the Board of Governors, served as an International Director and was elected president of The International Association of Lions Clubs in June 1973. In 1967, Tris received Canada's Centennial Medal on the 100th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada in recognition of his valuable service to the nation. He will always be remembered for his generosity and his dedication to the cause of lionism. A private funeral for family members will be held on August 7. The family wishes to thank the personnel of St-Eustache Hospital for their compassionate care and support. For those who wish to do so, memorial donations to Quebec Lions Clubs Foundation, P.O. The purpose of the foundation, where Tris was the first donor and the first ever Honorary Member, is to help the seeing impaired and those suffering from diabetes.
