Trudy Rickett Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 9, 2024.
Trudy Lee Reid Rickett, 70, died peacefully on October 6th, 2024. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 17th, 2024 at the Hotel Indigo Downtown Tuscaloosa from 2:00 to 5:00pm.

Trudy was born on November 3rd, 1953 in Birmingham, AL to Dr. Charles Laurence and Gertrude Reid. She graduated from Pine Crest High School, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. in 1971 and moved to Tuscaloosa, AL to attend The University of Alabama. While at the university, she received her undergraduate degree in English and went on to pursue her Masters. She was an active member of the Pi Beta Phi, Beta Chapter, holding the position of treasurer, as well as a Lambda Chi Sweetheart, and runner up in the Miss Corolla Beauty Pageant. During her time in Tuscaloosa, she met and married John Faville Rickett in 1977. They were happily married for thirty-one years and continued their life together in Tuscaloosa.

Trudy had a long career in banking and bookkeeping at First National Bank and later at Hudson Poole Jewelers. She enjoyed cooking for and hosting her friends and family as well as spending time with John at her family property in Clayton, AL. Her hobbies included reading, gardening, and needlepoint.

In 1993, Trudy and John welcomed their daughter, Reid Faville Rickett. Trudy's focus turned to mothering by immersing herself in Reid's activities such as arts and crafts, Alabama Choir School, and traveling to horse shows across the country with Westminster Farm. Later in life, Trudy moved to Brentwood, TN to be closer to Reid and her husband (Jake). Trudy was especially excited to welcome her first grandchild (Viola Leeann) who is expected in January 2025.

Trudy was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Charles Laurence and Gertrude Meter Reid; her brother, L. Byron Reid; and her husband, John Faville Rickett. She is survived by her daughter, Reid Rickett Crain (Jacob Michael), sisters and brothers-in-law John Rickards/Christine Watson, Matthew and Donna Power, Bill and Brenda Rickett; and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Aveanna MYSN Hospice Fund (235 Noah Drive Suite 300, Franklin, TN, 37064) or The Arbor Day Foundation (888-448-7337). The family extends its gratitude to the employees of Symphony Assisted Living and Aveanna Hospice of Franklin, TN for their care and compassion.
