Vanessa Mudd-Brown Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 8, 2025.
Vanessa L. Mudd-Brown, 61, of Peoria, Illinois, passed away February 3, 2025, at her residence. Born on June 6, 1963, in Peoria, Illinois. Vanessa was the daughter of Lewis W. and Casscile (Petty) Mudd. She accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Loucks Grade School before graduating from Peoria High School in 1981. For 33 years, Vanessa dedicated herself to the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2019. Her devotion to service did not end there. In June 2023, she returned to Peoria and took on the role of a bus monitor for Peoria Public Schools, ensuring the safety and well-being of young students. She found joy in life's simple pleasures and cherished time spent with family. She enjoyed bowling, bicycling, walking, fishing, and solving word hunt puzzles. She is survived by her daughter Jasmine (Ty) Wilson and granddaughter Zia Hernandez of Antioch, California; three sisters, Lisa (William) McGee and Alison R. Ferguson of Peoria, Illinois, and Donna (Sylvester) Lindsey of North Carolina; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces, great-great-nephews, extended family members, and friends. She is also remembered by her former spouse, James Brown of Wynn, Arkansas. Vanessa was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents William Lewis and Bessie Farris Mudd and Ed Petty and Katie Phillips Thornton; her brother Daries Petty; and one niece, Darice Carter. Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Galena Park Baptist Church, 5831 N. Galena Rd., Peoria Heights. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.

I am at loss for words of hearing the passing of Vanessa. I will always remember our childhood memories growing up, but know that I am praying for the family for healing and comfort and that death is only temporary (Revelation 21:3,4) and that soon according to (John 5:29) so, until we meet again may God keep you in his memories. .
Love to to all your niece Denyce and family

Vanessa Brown was a tenant of mine. She has lived here for almost 2 years. She was sweet, respectful of others and she loved her apartment. I thank God that He brought Vanessa to my little community. I will miss her dearly...My condolences to her family and friends.
