Virginia Martin Obituary

Published by Contra Costa Times on Oct. 19, 2014.
Virginia Lee Martin
June 2 1928 - October 15, 2014
Concord
Loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, Virginia (VanDeventer) fought a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. She loved her family, babies, and music. Her outlook was unfailingly positive, extending even to her prognosis.
The youngest of eight children, she grew up in Visalia, California. In 1956 she married James F. Martin and they moved to Fresno, then to Hayward, and to Concord in 1967. She was a home economics teacher and work experience coordinator at Pittsburg High, and enjoyed her job, colleagues and students up until her retirement in 1996.
She is survived by her husband, three daughters, one son and four grandchildren, who will miss her and her confident, affirmative spirit more than words can say. A memorial will be held at a later date at her church, Concord United Methodist. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to organizations dedicated to curing Alzheimer's.
