W. Neil Heberling Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 16, 2025.
W. Neil Heberling, 83, passed away on July 9, 2025, in Dayton, Nevada. Born on June 10, 1942, in Dayton, Ohio, Neil lived a life marked by curiosity, innovation, and a deep appreciation for the mysteries of both the physical and spiritual worlds.

Neil served his country with honor in the United States Coast Guard during the Vietnam War era. Stationed in Greenland, he played a vital role monitoring radar systems-an experience that would later inform his lifelong fascination with technology and exploration.

Following his military service, Neil pursued a career as an electrical engineer. He worked for several technology companies in California before channeling his entrepreneurial spirit into founding his own business with his former wife Maureen Mathews Heberling. Together they established Electronic Services and Products (ESP), a venture that reflected both his technical expertise and creative drive.

Neil's passions extended far beyond the workplace. A true enthusiast of all things mechanical and celestial, he was captivated by model trains, stock car racing, ham radio communications, and especially designing, building, and flying remote-controlled airplanes. His love for speed and innovation was matched only by his wonder at the cosmos-a fascination fueled by his devotion to the Star Trek series and a lifelong dream of exploring outer space.

He also held a deep belief in the afterlife and spent time contemplating the spiritual dimensions of existence alongside his scientific pursuits. For Neil, understanding life meant embracing both its tangible mechanics and its intangible mysteries.

Neil is lovingly remembered by his brother Jon Heberling; sister Rae Heberling Case; former wife Maureen Mathews Heberling; daughters Nancy Heberling Dziuba and Cheri Heberling; and grandsons Christian Timothy Dziuba, Alexander Jason Dziuba, and Lucas Nathaniel Dziuba.

He was preceded in death by his father Wilbur Floyd Heberling; mother Ethel Mae Maurer Heberling; and brother Richard Heberling.

A man who found joy in fast machines and distant galaxies, Neil leaves behind a legacy of invention, imagination, and inquiry. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and inspiration to those who share his passion for discovery.
