Coal Aston Mr Walter Mason Havenhand, of Eckington Road, Coal Aston, has died at home, aged 96.
Born at Coal Aston and a lifelong resident of the area, he worked as a teacher all his life. Started at Overseal, serving in the Leicestershire Royal Air Force during the war, returning to teach at Dronfield Boys then transferring to Gosforth School in 1955, retiring as deputy headteacher in 1979. A member of the Dronfield Light Opera Group and Dronfield Choral Society, Mr Havenhand was also a church organist, enjoyed gardening and played for Coal Aston cricket club in his earlier years.
He leaves one sister, two nieces and two nephews.
The funeral has taken place.
