Walter MILLER Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix on Jun. 20, 2018.
MILLER, Walter Joseph We announce with sadness the passing of Walter J Miller of Grandora, SK on June 16, 2018. Born in Medstead, October 28, 1925 to August and Marie Miller, youngest of 7 children. Walter met the love of his life, Violet Randall. They married June 28, 1950. Residing in the Asquith-Grandora area, Walter found his love of ranching. His long life brought with it years of dancing, socializing and his love of cattle, horses and living his cowboy way. Throughout the years, Walter and Vi were blessed with 5 children; son, Roddy (Shelley) McMillan; daughters, Barb (Glen) Davidson, Audrey (Darrel) Summach, Bev (Murray) Zwozdesky, Bonnie (Brad) Brooks; as well as 9 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his wife, Violet; sister, Helmie Oliver, sisters-in-law, Myrtle Miller and Edith Randall. Walter was predeceased by his parents, daughter Barb Davidson, brothers, Alfred (Lillian), August, Louis (Mary), William (Betty) and sister, Johanna (George) Kostyniuk, brother-in-law Frank Oliver. Walter had continued to enjoy family, friends and spending time at Parkridge with his loving wife, Violet of 67 years. We are grateful that Walter went peacefully at the family farm with his boots on. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th St., first right past Briargate Rd.). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East One Resident Comfort Fund, Parkridge Centre (110 Gropper Cres., Saskatoon, SK S7M 1N9). Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.hillcrestmemorial.ca Arrangements entrusted to Jamie Rugg.

I first met Walter through his daughter, Audrey ( who was a long-term employee and became my very good friend). Walter personified all that was good and honest in a man. I enjoyed his jokes and his recollections of times gone by...the ranching heritage and culture. My sympathy to all who knew him, loved him and now miss him so much.

'Leave my 'buzza; alone by Sandy Hass

In 1985 Norm Kohle & I moved to the land east of Walter and Vi's and we quickly became a part of the Miller family. They welcomed us with open arms. I would ride down to visit and we went on many trail rides with the family.

When our boys were born, Walter was the first one to see them when we cam home from he hospital.

One winter I would hook up the dog to the toboggan, load up the boys and deliver Walter his eggs. As the boys grew older Walter would tease them and one or the other would say 'leave my buzza (brother) alone' to which Walter would laugh & laugh!

We will miss you, Cowboy. Sandy,Levi and Tyrell

My sincere condolences to Walter's family for your loss.
Walter was the first neighbor we met after moving to the area and it's been a great pleasure to know him for the past 12 years. Wether it was dinner at our place or in town, a cold beer on a hot day in the field, Miller Time on the deck, or watching bull riding, Walter was always quick to laugh and share some insight. It won't be the same without him popping by. I will miss him.

No matter what age it always seems too soon for a loved one to leave our lives. Although we didn't see Walter that often, when we did we always had a great visit.
He was a wonderful neighbor and will be missed. A life well lived.

My sincere condolences to the Miller family. When I first moved to the Grandora area, I met Mr. Miller at Sandyridge. A friendly man with a big cowboy hat and a smile as big as his hat. Over the years we had coffee around the table many times and I always learned something of interest. He was what a city guy like me saw as a true cowboy, a gentleman.
