Wilbur Allen "Will" Stambaugh

Wilbur Allen Stambaugh

2/17/1935-8/19/2025. Tyler, Texas

Here is a man

A true human being

No greater and no worse than any other

But one who worked to earn his rest

His 90 year old remains

Won't tell the story of his soul or of his life

Of his upbringing in Kentucky and Kansas

Of his service in the Army

Of how he met his wife

How they took their two young children

Overseas to Germany in 1966

8 years of traveling Europe

Meeting friends and finding adventure

And then to LaMarque Texas

And Sugarland

Where his sermon wondering

How we might fare

If God were a black woman

Got all the tongues wagging

And him tossed from the church he founded

How Beaumont called

And he served Pioneer Presbyterian

As interim pastor for 17 years

How he loved being Port Chaplain

Helping seamen from around the globe

call home

Buy American blue jeans

Have a taste of hospitality

And ice cream

These remains won't tell you

How he attended to Mable Miller and DC

And to Carroll too

How he attended to brethren and sisters alike

How he loved traveling this world

How he cherished fellow travelers

Here is a man

A true human being

No greater and no worse than any other

But one who worked to earn his rest

"With charity for all, malice toward none"

We assumed there would be trumpets

And a host to carry him home

So may they attend him now

And his ship touch on their shore
