William Basham

Basham, William (Bill) age 83, of Vista, CA, passed away on January 8, 2025. Bill was born on May 25, 1941 in Tennessee to Flavil Basham, Sr. and Florine Basham. Bill was a servant of the Lord and a servant of the community. Bill served as the Civil Engineer in charge of the Shadowridge Country Club Development and became active in many civic groups, served as Vista Rotary Club President, Vista Chamber of Commerce President; Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club and the Santa Margarita YMCA. In 1988, the Tri-City Hospital Foundation named Bill a North County Outstanding Man of the Year. Bill also served many years in the Sunrise Kiwanis Club of Vista. Bill began work as the Public Works Director for the City of Vista January 25, 1993 to 2004 and stated it was his favorite job serving the residents of Vista. Bill also served as a deacon to Buena Vista Baptist Church (Stonebrooke), and Riverside Baptist Church located in Alabama where he retired too. Bill's dedication and commitment to the city and the community was always evident.

Bill married Helen Hodges in 1962 and they had three children Barbara, Greg and Marty. Helen passed in 1973 and Bill married Marifrances (Mari) Renfro in 1973. Bill, Mari and the kids were active and participated in most school and local organizations. Upon Bill's retirement in 2004, Mari and Bill moved to Alabama. Mari passed in 2007 and Bill married Jimmie Nabors in 2008.

Bill is survived by children Barbara (Bob) Dean, Greg (Carole) Basham, Marty (Lori) Basham, grandchildren Lynda (Tim) Radzikowski, Josh (Amber) Dean, Jessica Basham, and great grandchild Presley Dean. Siblings, Wayne (Mary) Basham and Glenda Peterson. Bill is also survived by, His wife, Jimmie Basham, and her children Nancy Nabors, Karen (Joey) Henderson, Annette (Jim) Aubrey, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he loved deeply and considered them as his own.

Bill was a leader, a problem solver, a man led by faith and always a gentleman. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends and anyone who ever met him.

Services will be held Saturday, February 8th, 10 am Stonebrook Church, 145 Hannalei Drive, Vista, CA 92083. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Heart Association, St. Jude's, Special Olympics, or a charity of your choice.
