WAREHAM — William F. Davis, 95, of Wareham, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Tobey Hospital. He was the husband of the late Lucille (Cook) Davis.

Lovingly known as "BILL" he permanently settled in the community shortly after WWII, when he met his beloved wife Lucille. Interestingly Bill and Lucille had grown up in adjoining small towns in Vermont, Bill going to Lucille's dentist father as a child.

A WWII Army veteran, Bill served in India and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his discharge Bill returned to his Engineering position with the Army Corp of Engineers Stationed on the Cape Cod Canal. This work was his second love, spending hours on the water and providing him many opportunities to be creative in his field. He is credited with patents and testified as an expert witness in shipping accident cases. He often shared interesting stories of his activities and adventures during his 30+ years at the Canal Post. He is also an accomplished machinist and carpenter. His third love was his axe collection. It is extensive and includes several hundred classical and ornate examples. During his retirement he remained active in his church and community.

A church deacon and choir member of the First Congregational Church of Wareham, he volunteered for the town of Wareham regularly working the local polls on election days.

Bill is survived by: His son Danforth Davis and his wife Marilyn of Las Vegas, Nevada. His daughter Virginia Davis and her husband Dr. Reza Jarrahy of Los Angeles, CA. Loving grandfather of Alizeh, Kian and Kaiis Davis-Jarrahy. Brother of the late Fredrick Davis and Elizabeth Davis-Clark. Visiting hours are Tuesday, April 7, from 4-7 p.m. in the Wareham Village Funeral Home, 5 Center Street, Wareham. Relatives and friends invited. Funeral Service is Wednesday April 8, at 1 p.m. in the First Congregational Church, 11 Gibbs Ave., Wareham 02571. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the First Congregational Church.
