William Fisher Duckworth Jr., also affectionally known as Ducky, passed away on February 8, 2024, at the age of 81 in Titusville, Florida. He was born on February 3, 1943, in Baltimore, Maryland. An amazing father, husband, brother, and friend to many, his quick wit and sense of humor were always sharp, bringing joy to those around him. During his career at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Bill formed lifelong friendships and unbreakable bonds with his colleagues, earning the respect and admiration of all who knew him.

Bill served in the United States Marine Corps from 1966 to 1968, specializing in "Psy-Ops" and reconnaissance, and reaching the rank of Sergeant. His military service showcased his dedication and commitment to his country.

In 1981, Bill was hired by Pan-American before the Space Shuttle Columbia STS-2 mission, which marked the beginning of his 28-year career at KSC. Throughout his career, he worked for various contractors, including EG&G, Lockheed Martin, and United Space Alliance, serving as an Operational Safety Engineer. Bill's dedication to his work was evident in his willingness to cover extra shifts and go above and beyond for his colleagues and friends. He had the opportunity to travel to alternate landing sites around the world, including Spain, The Gambia, and California, ensuring the safety of manned space flights. Bill's outstanding contributions were recognized when he received the Astronauts' Personal Achievement Award, also known as the "Silver Snoopy" award, on September 1, 1999, presented by Astronaut Sunita L. Williams.

Bill's love for life extended beyond his professional achievements. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Merritt Island. In his free time, Bill enjoyed playing racquetball and running. After retiring, he became an avid collector of various collectibles, including baseball cards, rare toys, children's books, and literary publications dating back to the 1500s. His expertise in identifying coin and card conditions was truly remarkable.

Bill is survived by his son, Ryan, daughter-in-law Tanya Duckworth, brother Stuart, and numerous cousins and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, William F. Duckworth Sr., his mother, Vera Irene Duckworth, and his beloved wife of 41 years, Karin.

Bill requested that there be no graveside or internment services. Private internment services will be handled by Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, Florida. A celebration of life to honor Bill's life and memories is currently being planned will be published and shared as soon as a date is set.

I met Bill when we were classmates at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. He was a very special man but had a "cocky walk' when he was feeling good. All of us who knew Bill were blessed with his friendship. He will be missed.
