WIlliam Frazier Obituary

Published by Post-Tribune on Dec. 20, 2020.
William (Bill) R. Frazier

On Monday, December 14, 2020, William Frazier – Christian, husband, father, veteran, innovator, dancer, gardener, teacher, servant - passed away at the age of 92.

Bill was born September 4, 1928 in Groton, South Dakota. His family moved to Crisman, Indiana when he was three and he spent much of his life in Portage Township. He met Marie Munro of East Gary, Indiana and were married April 22, 1950. They proceeded to love and cherish each other every single day for the next 67 years. With the help of family and his own hands he built a house in Portage, Indiana and made it their home for 60 years before they moved to Indianapolis in 2012.

A graduate of Portage High School, he served in the US Army during the Korean War where he was an analyst for the Counterintelligence Corps. After his honorable discharge, he attended Valparaiso Technical Institute where he received a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology and aced every single math class. Soon after he was employed by IBM where he had a long, distinguished 30+ year career of innovation and service. He did his part to shape today's information age through his immense hardware and software knowledge, his active listening, his willingness to put others before himself, his patience, his gentleness, his kindness, and his grace before retiring in 1987.

Bill loved his church, and was a long-time member of Community Presbyterian Church of Lake Station, Indiana where he served in many roles: Session Member, Sunday School Superintendent, Youth Fellowship Leader, and Sunday School Teacher. Upon moving to Indianapolis, he also became a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.

He was a lifelong member of the Dunes Masonic Lodge. Bill and Marie also had a passion for dancing and belonged to the Cross Trailers Square Dance Club. He enjoyed puttering in the garden, playing golf, and was an expert do-it-yourself repairman. He was charitable with this time and worked many years pro-bono helping people to complete and file their taxes. He enjoyed traveling with this wife and family and was able to visit all 50 states.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Marie (Munro) Frazier, parents, Roy (Bertie) and Bertha (Krieger) Frazier, Brothers Floyd Frazier and John Frazier, and Sister-in-law Jeanette Olson, Brother-in-Law Hebert Olson and Brother-in-law Robert Munro.

He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and survived by 2 Sons; William Scott (Jo-Anne) of Downingtown, PA and Bradley Hugh (Kathy) of Indianapolis. 4 Grandchildren: Zachary (Susan) Frazier of Oshkosh, WI, Adam (Amanda) Frazier of Norwalk, CT, Jessica Frazier of Downingtown, PA, and Mark Frazier of Downingtown, PA. And 4 Great Grandchildren: Felicity, Simon, and Adelyn Frazier of Oshkosh, WI and Olivia Frazier of Norwalk, CT. He is also survived by Sister-in-law JoAn Munro and many loving Nieces and Nephews.

Memorial contributions may be given to Community Presbyterian Church 2800 Fayette St, Lake Station, IN 46405.

Due to the prevailing pandemic, a private funeral will be conducted at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave. Portage IN. and he will be interned at Calvary Cemetery in Portage IN. Bill was a man of love, integrity, wisdom and faith - a blessing to all who knew him. A proud Army veteran, his love of God, family and country was his hallmark. Having come to know him as a brother in Christ at St. Luke's as he mourned Marie's transfer to heaven, we often prayed together and talked of wonderful memories and the promises of our Lord who undoubtedly welcomed him home saying "Well done good and faithful servant!" Your "Navy buddy" will miss you, Bill, until we meet again.
