William Reid Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 25, 2024.
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, William Robert Reid, who died on September 24, 2024, at the age of 82. He was a very kind man of immense integrity and wit, who cherished every moment spent with family and friends. Bill spent 30 years as a high school teacher and coach. He and his family resided in Naperville for 41 years. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Galena where he found his true passion and joy in land conservation. He was one of the founding members and forces behind the Galena Area Land Enthusiasts (GALE) working with the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation (JDCF). He is survived by his wife Judith, daughter Wendy (Greg) Theehs, son Michael, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Lake Erie Reid. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation (JDCF) A celebration of Bill's life will be held at a later date. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. Online condolences may be left at www.furlongfuneralchapel.com

I met Bill shortly after moving to Galena and he got me involved in GALE! He was a joy to work with and was committed to improving his community. Bill will live on in the memories of those that knew him and through his many good deeds in the community!
