James Witt Obituary
He was born on Nov. 23, 1940, in Deerfield. On May 14, 1966, he married Sandy Iott and she survives. Jim was a 1958 graduate of Deerfield High School. Immediately following his high school graduation he worked at Revco and soon after was drafted into the U.S. Army where he was stationed at West Point for two years. After his departure from the Army, he went to work for Ann Arbor Ceiling and Partition with Carpenter's Union Local 512 and eventually moved up to the sales manager. Jim was known around work as "the Legend" by friends and co-workers for a total of 38 years before retiring.
Jim had many hobbies, including wood working, playing cards, golfing and loved working in his garden. He was an avid bowler in past years, participating on the men's and couples league at the Deerfield bowling alley. He spent 33 years making family memories at their cottage, "Snotts Landing," on Marr Lake. After retirement he and Sandy wintered in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and enjoyed traveling. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Jim was a member of the Deerfield American Legion Post 392 for more than 50 years where he was a past commander and service officer.
In addition to his wife, Sandy, he is survived by two daughters, Jennifer (Roger) Blake of Berkley and Megan (Mike) Karpinski of Blissfield; honorary "lake daughter" Amy (Mark) Madalinski and their children, Ryan and Abby of Blissfield; a brother, John (Joan) Witt of Deerfield; two sisters, Patricia Wright of Petersburg and Gaynell Sharrock of Deerfield; four grandchildren, Zoe and Evan Blake and Brayden and Chase Karpinski; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew, Billy Witt; and two brothers-in-law, Victor Wright and Harley Sharrock.
The funeral liturgy for Jim will be read at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, at Light of Christ Parish, St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, in Deerfield with Fr. Jeff Poll as celebrant. Full military rites will be conducted by the Deerfield American Legion Post 392 at the church following the mass. Visitation will be from 2 until 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, at the Anderson Rudd Funeral Home, Blissfield, with a vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will also take place Saturday, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lenawee, the Deerfield American Legion Post 392 or the Deerfield Firefighters Association. Envelopes are available at Anderson Rudd Funeral Home, Blissfield.
